Royalee
Fezza
Ian Royal Given we had Murty, De La Cruz and Rosenior, if I'd known at the time he wanted out and his heart wasn't in the job anymore, I'd have taken that offer. We could have reinvested some of it in Taylor and be in a better position now than we are, even if we'd still gone down.

But hindsight is a wonderful thing and obviously it was considered not enough given his worth to the team at that point. Missed opportunities.

You are Sir Steve ICMFP

Well he's almost as big an idiot, I'll give him that.

Whether he can look quite as ridiculous biting his lip looking dumbfounded and motionless on the touch line and sound like Lilly Savage's boring half brother in quite so shit a style is anyone's guess though.

i hear what your saying

but to me

it just sounds like

blah blah blah , blah blah blah blah

a bit like the teacher from peanuts

-sorry, that was a bit childish wasnt it

Denver Royal
Ian Royal I didn't grudge Sidwell going. But then Sidwell put one of his best seasons for us whilst running down his contract.

I agree, but you would never have known it by reading this forum a year or so ago.

I'll always remember the photograph in here of Shorey (who was the blue eyed boy at the time) together with Sidwell at Shorey's wedding. Sidwell was in the wedding party and people were posting stuff like 'Nicky you need to find better mates!'...'Sidwell is a a disruption in training and a cancer in the dressing room'...'Sidwell has a bad attitude, he just doesn't care or even try in games anymore'...'Sidwell should follow Shorey's example, be loyal to the club and not be a, well, greedy bollox'...and so on.

Yet here we are a year later, and we're talking up Sids, while Shorey is the villain. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Well I can only speak for myself and whilst I was dissapointed Sidwell didn't sign a new deal with us I certainly never slagged him off for it. I seem to recall defending him quite heavily, so as you can see my anger at Shorey is completely different.

Royalee, I am well aware that huffing and puffing doesn't make a great player. I am also well aware that some players who have done us great service are not right for taing us forward. Afterall every player has their sell by date.

I am also quite capable of noticing the good stuff players do in the background. Which is why I'm a big fan of Harper. Though I'd like him more if he stopped thinking he was a defensive midfielder and attacked more. Crab Harper is good. Attacking Harper is great.

Obviously I'll never convince you, regardless of what I say. So I won't bother trying, because you're a blinkered moron. Some of us are capable of changing our opinions of players when they perform to different levels.

I love the phrase 'Crab Harper' - it should be his official nickname!

Harper always reminds me of an athletic version of Ray Houghton (when he played for us).

I do believe that we should have moved Shorey on last year, he obviously wasnt effective and on last years performances he would have struggled to make an England "c" eleven......no doubt rubbing shoulders in the England camp with the £40,000+ a week internationals did greatly affect his mentality of playing for the royals, I would think that whilst in the England picture he was worth considerably more than he is now.

I would agree with you in hindsight. But we had no one near his quality as a replacement. And we nearly stayed up, even with him playing nowhere near his top form. If we had sold him off and not purchased an adequate replacement then that transaction would have been looked at as a main culprit in our relegation. With margins so razor-thin any number of flaps of a butterfly's wings could have seen us stay up. Who knows? Maybe selling him and bringing someone else in would have kept us up. It can really make your head swim thinking about all the ways we could have avoided the trap-door last year.
