Ian Royal Church will be an excellent support striker for a more prolific number 9. His movement is brilliant and I actually think his passing and vision is pretty good as well. His only weaknesses are his awareness in terms of staying on side and his finishing.

His finishing is already improving with the confidence of playing and scoring. His shooting was never that bad, just lacked that little something to turn a fairly well hit shot into a very well hit shot and goal.

I agree in essence about him being a good foil for another forward who can actually score goals, no problem with that.

Not sure I'd say his vision and passing are a real strength as yet though. We've seen far too many occassions where he's failed to see a pretty clear opportunity to put in a team mate, or just cocked it up when trying to pass, or just taken what was probably the wrong option to prevent an attack developing.

He's still doing ok though, and his development is continuing at a pretty good rate, but he's still lacking in something to make him a bit more effective though.

I've already said his goal was excellent.

Not sure the rest of his game was quite so excellent to be honest though.

on the back from the game thread Hoop Blah
John Madejski's Wallet
FiNeRaIn They handled it brilliantly I thought, he had a couple of one on one chances and the defenders outpaced him and pushed him out wide every time. Even with the goal he scored I don't know how he didn't sail through and score, looked like the danger was over after the defender got back and got in front of him. Church never looks like he's going to score to be honest.

imo it was finally pumping the ball (properly) into space and allowing Church to chase that opened the game for us. Personally I thought he pulled their defence all over the place in the second half

Agree with both of you really. Church did pull them all over the place but they handled it pretty well and marshalled him with ease most of the time. He had plenty of chances to get away from the defence or create something but rarely did and they never really looked troubled by him.

Even Rasiaks two goals came from moves where Church probably should, or at least could, have scored nut just didn't do enough with his chance. Can't say that about his goal though! Even after again being well marshalled it was a smart turn and an inch perfect shot that was in as soon as it left his boot. Quality!

I thought he played pretty well, but nothing out of the ordinary apart from the strike for the goal, which was pretty much inch perfect.

Worked his socks off and scored a fabulous goal. His non-stop running knackers the fck out of defenders, opening up gaps for other lightning fast players like Kebe. And Rasiak!

NEVER!!! this is hob nob.. and as a result.. it is our duty to ridicule and criticise everything to do with RFC. we pay our money and therefore can say what we like.
regardless if the player has lots of promise as a young international. it will never be good enough for us

Church had an excellent work ethic tonight, played 55 minutes.
Unlucky not too get a goal, played really well.

Also, Collins looked pretty Solid tbf shoved their strikers round, Elmander what a moaner.

I'll echo those thoughts, having been to the game too. Thought Church looked very lively. Great goal from Elmander though.

Yes, excellent. I'm kinda surprised he has so many
considering he does waste chances, but he works his socks off
and ten goals is ten goals, however they go in.

We looked impotent when Shane Long went off on saturday.
I think Long is top class, Church is still learning the game, but many of his goals this season have been lucky. E.g. trying to lob the 'keeper, and getting a second bite of the cherry.
Shane Long's good form is affecting Church negatively. He needs to pull his socks up or face starting next season out on loan, especially as our current players out on loan seem to be doing well.

That's not what I am seeing.

Church won the penalty in mid week through his own good work, and almost scored on Saturday with what were practically his first touches of the ball.

He is doing no better or worse than he was earlier in the season.

I disagree. I think Church does have some way to go, but I think he is past the "loaning out" stage and I think he can cut it at Championship level. He is still learning though, and I think he is good enough for us. He was expected to be 'one to look out for' this season IIRC.

.

Umm, should have scored a chance that was an absolute sitter to any professional footballer...yes. It says more about his short comings than he strengths that he missed. It cost us the game.

A few things in this post stand out to me.

1) How is Longs 'good form' affecting Church negatively?
2) I'm not sure Long is really in good form is he? Granted, he had a bit of a run infront of goal but I'm still not sure he's been playing that well over the last 5 or 6 games.
3) Which of our forwards is performing so well out on loan?
