if every year you moan about the state of the club, and the quality of the squad, and the ammount of money spent, through the years of great success, and then your moans and worries finally at some point become truth, it doesnt mean youre mystic meg.any more than i was when i was happy with the squad in 05/06 - 06/07.

I worry about my club.
I point out where I think they could be doing things wrong.

I hardly moan about everything even if I take a slightly perverse joy in pointing out the folly in being overly-optimistic about everything.

There's a clear difference.

It's not my fault you can't grasp that.

Not really. Never replaced Sidwell and that was the reason we went down.

'Replaced' him with the club's record signing, i.e. spending big to replace a big player. Doesn't work, does it?

So... the amount spent on a player is irrelevant?

i never moan about it, and would take no joy whatsoever if my club isnt successful, though i would take much joy if my optimism is well founded.

so enjoy whatever glee you feel if/when we get relegated.and if that makes you "better" fair enough.
im just not sure what your different attitude achieves for you

05/06 and 06/07 would suggest so wouldnt it?

as would every club that has spent millions and still come down.

Tony Le Mesmer
Nick Shorey my Lord!
LoyalRoyalFan Madejski has pocketed over 7million quid yesterday.

Please demonstrate, with facts, where Madejski has taken money from the operating balance sheet of RFC.

Shifting personal debt on the hotel onto the club? Ot to be more preicse, using cash from player sales to cut losses on the side of the "business".

Genuine ask - please show me where he's done the first part.

For the second part, that's standard business practice and does not directly contribute towards filling his pockets. He (and 95% of other chairman) does not take a salary from RFC.

One particular HNA legend said at the start of the 04/05 season 'even the most optimistic RFC fan can only see a relegation battle'

LOL @ Jay

Are you seriously suggesting that there is no correlation between player's transfer fees and their ability?

What I am suggesting is that in the past, at Reading FC, there has been no correlation between transfer fees and ability. Sigurdsson (out) excluded

no, i think he is saying, with huge justification that you can have as many multi million pound players in the squad as you like, and still fail.
and conversley that you can have a squad assembled for pennies that is hugely successful.

not sure how that can be argued against.

ill extrapolate from there that money isnt what generates success, but ill understand if you cant take that step with me

In the majority of cases money is what generates success (see Chelsea) but it doesn't necessarily guarantee success (see Newcastle). However,if you plot 'money spent' against 'success' you would see a clear pattern.

Sheshnu has a point that Reading seem to be an exception, largely due to their apparent rule than anyone bought for over £2,000,000 is forbidden to play more than a handful of games.

ok schards, ill concede that there may well be some small correlation...............

the point is its not guaranteed, and until someone comes in who wants to take those kind of gambles, we are kinda stuck with the current policy

My prediction is that when Madejski eventually goes we will , after a short while, be wishing he was back.

Mark my words.
