Hound May just be an impression but it feels like the teams change a lot more season by season in L1

It’s why I don’t really take the ‘new team needs time to bed in’ as much of an excuse. That seems to be every team in this league to me. And whilst I like the idea of building for next year - Elliott will be ooc, Savage 1 year left and prob wanting a move, the loanees will have gone again, and Wing will be another year older

We’ll probably look to sell the better performers from the academy to balance the books - so maybe no more Garcia (also ooc) and Ahmed

So likely back if not to square 1, might not be too far off again in 26/27

Savage came on a 4 year deal in 2023 and so is contracted to 2027 and so no immediate threat of losing him. There is plenty of time for the contract to be extended and the same goes for Elliott. It is far too early to worry about the squad next season.

No thanks.

It's not like he'd be walking back into the same squad.

Don’t think Hunt is going anywhere anyway.

I dont think Hunt is any kind of mastermind manager and I doubt he's ever going to be, but I do think regardless of the money offered or any other factors I doubt Wing or Pereira would have signed on if he was a complete muppet.

So if he's basically a standard league 1 manager, for us to make an actual improvement we'd need to bring in a good championship level manager, which tbh is not something I can picture these owners doing.

So if the options are Hunt who is a reading fan who knows all the academy players and has shown he's happy to put faith in them, or someone who has previously worked at Wycombe, Ill go with Noel every time

Noel is the new Gareth Ainsworth.

Selles bailed for a job that had a guaranteed pay-check every month - most of us would have walked out on an employer who missed payday so often long before he did.

What are Hunt's good attributes?

What is Noel poor at?

How easy would it be to improve his weaknesses, and who would be able to do that? Or can we bring in an assistant who could cover for these discrepancies

1. He has a friendly relationship with the players and he enjoys being part of a harmonious dressing room. Much the same as he was when he was as a player. Inheriting Ruben’s team and tactics meant that he hardly had to change a thing because playing the way we did almost got us into the play offs. This strengthened his belief in, and dependency on the singular tactical vision.

2. See above.

Losing Gibbo was and still is a major blow.

1. Loyalty and interpersonal qualities
2. Adapts players to plan, rather than the other way around
3. Time and experience will help

Extended-Phenotype
hughsies no.1 I’m not calling for Hunt to go - but I am betting increasingly concerned by our ‘second ball tactics’ we seem to have, especially at home.

We don’t dictate games, teams play through us.

I’d hope this long break means we can work on not being a second ball team - which I currently think we are.

IF Selles is sacked, which looks likely…

Would you -
A - have him back straight away
B - think he would want to come back?

FWIW - I would have him back in a heartbeat and reckon he would be open to it too.

Selles bailed halfway through a job when the going got tough. I didn’t find it surprising, but I was disappointed with him. Not really interested in letting him walk back in now the ship has steadied. And to be honest, I’m really not sure he is much better than Hunt (he’s lost two jobs since bailing on us).

Not sure I agree that he's no better than Hunt entirely. In our context being a lower league side I agree but I don't think Hunt has the tactical nous to be a successful manager in the championship or premier league, whereas Ruben Selles could be.

Sheffield United was never a good fit for him and he was harshly sacked by Hull. Would I have him back? Possibly but we have a different group of attacking players now so I couldn't expect an instant turnaround. He took a while to get going with us and wouldn't get that luxury now. I think we could do better than both.

Selles certainly was better than Hunt when he left.

On the other hand, he's failed twice since leaving and doesn’t know the squad. So current Selles is worse than previous Selles anyway.

And let's not forget Savage came out with some less than complimentary comments about him after he left.
