Yep, remember him well. I even felt tipped brown skin onto one of my RFC subbuteo players to make the team more authentic. RIP.

Never saw him play but his goal has gone in to folklore the same way as Fridays against Tranmere. Sad news RIP.

Played in a couple of games against sides with Andy involved in local youth footy. He was a cut above the rest of us but did not make a big noise about it,let ball do the talking etc.

RIP Andy.

I just about remember him.

As a STH, you used to be able to watch the reserves at EP on a Wednesday evening free of charge. I think only the C Stand was open and during 1975 he was a regular (for the reserves).

Mystifying why he never tried his luck with another (league) club after leaving us. He was certainly good enough.

That'd be the Subbuteo QPR/Reading/Morton kit.

Biro'd two faint blue hoops around the socks and plasticined a belly onto Percy Freeman drew a mostache onto Bryan Carnaby and cut Steve Death's arms off just for authenticity.

Saw his goal and remember the "talk on the terraces" when he (Andy Alleyne) played.

A small time player that made a big time impact (long time) to our local team...thanx for the memories Andy.

I remember seeing the goal against Southport from the Town End ( there was no actual away end then, not that Southport would have brought many fans anyway), embarrassing and sadly there was quite a bit of racial so called humour and some monkey impersonations from our own fans. When Andy scored (at the Tilehurst End) you would have thought that would be the end of it but they just carried on. It was like that in those days.

I remember an away game at Crewe (?) where has was subject to a lot of racist monkey noises. He didn't react. As was said, 61 is no age.

Reminded of your own mortality when your heroes start to depart this earth.

No bigger accolade - he was my subbuteo right back - even correctly painted, albeit not particularly well!!

Happy daze. RIP sir.

I remember Andy playing schoolboy football for Alfred Sutton, in a very strong team. Melvin Simmons played for England Under 16 at Wembley, so you have an idea of the quality that he played with. I know that he would have been very pleased with himself for perservering, to accomplish becoming a fully fledged PROFESSIONAL Football Player.
He never faced any racial problems at school, as far as I'm aware, as it was a very diverse group of kids. (All be it a might rough at times...as most were sport freaks, of one nature or another.) I am a little dissapointed to read that he faced that rubbish as a player.
He has gone 'Home' a little early, yet I am sure that he would be satisfied with what he has done with his life, his wife, and his family. He is still in our hearts, so he has not fully gone. He'll be there when most needed.
Mayhap we will meet up again when I go 'Home'. My game was Rugby though, so I'll try to play fair for you.
RIP Andy.
