We don't actually need to win 10 games to get 39 points. I've heard a rumour that you get points for drawing games too these days.

7 wins and 9 draws, or 8 wins and 6 draws would do it.

No, nor do I.

paultheroyal Right - come on......lets get some positivity back!! Mission Impossible - Game On!

As Cmonurz pointed out - realistically we are looking at 10 wins from 16 matches if you ignore such games away to Man Utd etc.

Countdown starts now - lets tick off as we go those 10 winnable games and anything else can be added as a bonus.

I have marked the 10 winnable battles - it highlights the mammoth task ahead when you realise it does not leave much room for manoeuvre!!

Reading V Arsenal
Man City V Reading
Reading V Swansea WINNABLE
Reading V West Ham WINNABLE
Tottenham V Reading
Reading V West Brom WINNABLE
Newcastle V Reading
Reading V Chelsea
Reading V Sunderland WINNABLE
Stoke V Reading
Reading V Wigan WINNABLE
Everton V Reading
Reading V Aston Villa WINNABLE
Man Utd V Reading
Arsenal V Reading
Reading V Southampton WINNABLE
Reading V Liverpool
Norwich V Reading WINNABLE
Reading V QPR WINNABLE
Fulham V Reading WINNABLE
Reading V Man City
West Ham V Reading

10 game countdown remains the same!! We now need to be winning one of the "other" games - that be Liverpool at home then!!

I don't buy into this argument of winnable battles and the rest being bonus points. It's simply not backed up by evidence and i'm not interested in reasoning

Love it!

We have a Team that now understands how to hold a DRAW.....and mayhap on occassion even WIN.

Now add the "3 signings in January" that we keep hearing about, and those 'WINS' should come a little more often, so the "7 wins and 9 draws, or 8 wins and 6 draws would do it" posted by the Rev, is actually possible.

Given the way Newcastle are going that should also come under the winnable category

I bet no-one making predictions would have marked Everton at home as "WINNABLE".

Football is unpredictable - if it wasn't then it'd be a lot less enjoyable, and we'd all be living off our betting winnings.

Therefore I'm out of all the pointless speculation.

I may be laughed at but if Man U continue to run away with the league, City will come here with nothing to play for & if we need something, well, you just never know.

And it's unlikely we will need 39pts.

Following their defeat at home to Swansea :| even 7th from bottom Fulham are no longer on course to make 40pts.

36pts should be enough with 6 Wins plus 5 Draws seeming far from impossible given our fixture list and recent form.

Add two or more decent signings in the window and the wrist slitters who attach themselves to this club could be in for a "dire" start to 2013.

They usually say 10 wins keeps you up - in which case it is 8 to go.

With the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea hoovering up so many points there is an uneven distribution, meaning less points available for everyone else, so less than the traditional 40 will be needed to stay up. It was 37 last year, 31 two years before and 35 the year before that. It's only been 40 twice in the last 10 years, and with more dominant teams dropping so little at the top I'd bet it will end up being around 35. The year we went down on GD 37 would have seen us safe (we got 36).

Given that we already have 7 draws I'd bet that 8 more wins, or say 6 wins and 6 draws will do it on 37. Maybe slightly less.
