Hound It does seem incredibly bad. Tbh just don’t look forward to midweek games any more, partly because of this record

I increasingly wonder why I bother in general and yet I'm watching more games than ever thanks to the convenience òf modern tech. I think if my only options were Dellor audio only or schlepping to Reading for live matches I probably would have given up by now.
I'm mostly priced in from habit and not wanting to miss a good season.

Yeah know what you mean. Saturday games are just a social for the boys and their mates now tbh. Which is fine, relatively cheap entertainment for them
Frustrating as games like Blackburn and Norwich were genuinely enjoyable. But they seem to be the exception

Sutekh Bit more digging on this and basically since the start of season 2015/2016 Reading have played 109 midweek league fixtures and are averaging approx 0.89ppg. As you’d expect therefore, both home and away form is pretty useless though the team is actually harder to beat when playing away than at home while the home games usually return a decisive result.

Given they are so few, the away victories are:
31 January 2017 - Birmingham City 1-2 Reading
30 January 2018 - Burton Albion 1-3 Reading
27 October 2020 - Blackburn Rovers 2-4 Reading
16 February 2021 - Bristol City 0-2 Reading
Note that it seems once Reading have won at a team beginning with B, they are unable to repeat the feat!
As you’d probably expect, given we’re talking about English football, the most often recurring midweek games are of course not against anybody remotely local, they are: Birmingham City (7 games), Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers (all 6 games).

In short P109 Pts 97 - that's not just relegation, that's bottom of the table!
If you can be bothered, what are the comparable stats for Saturday / Sunday. Bank Holiday daytime KOs

That’s asking! Probably not a whole lot better, seem to remember one thing though which was that during Stam’s second season (2017/18) Reading did not win at home on a Saturday until 7th April (1-0 v Preston)![]()
And yet it had still taken the club until mid-March to sack Jaap!

Mid Sussex Royal The poor away record is probably down to location, the midlands/north sides are all basically doable on the day travel wise whereas we prob have to go up the day before. So for a Tues game the players basically have no rest...and before sky started red button all midweek game were on a Tues
I expect a lot of sides in the wrong location have poor midweek away record, be interesting to know
