Forbury Lion
Behindu Doyle ? We didn't sign him from the lower reaches of the Football League !
The Irish league is comparable to lower leagues here.

Not sure our Irish friends would entirely agree ! We seem to have plucked 3 players from there who don't look like lower league players. Maybe we should compromise and compare the Eircom league to the lower reaches of the Championship ?

Its the standard of the scottish league without the top two.

I said Doyle came from a lower league [NOT the League]. In that it is lesser than the Prem it is correct.

Players can make the jump from lower league to the top flight though....
Stead did well when first signed. Keegan was a pretty good buy too.... and Coppell and Hill and.... on look up the examples for yourself!

Nice attempted wriggle !

The Eircom league is it's country's top league, as the Premiership is our top league.
If we signed a player from Celtic I guess you'd see that as plucking a lower league player from obscurity as well !

Not wriggling at all... just explaining.

And no - I wouldn't dismiss the Scottish league like that. After all it has provided the first British winners of the European Cup, the first British club to reach 2 European cup finals, winners of the Cup winners cup and many other notable campaigns.
And all with a population of about a tenth of that of England.

The Eircom league is full of good players - but it is [imho] a lower league.... as is the Welsh league. So by your sophistry we could look to a signing from Carmarthen Town or Bangor as being the equivalent of a signing from Real Madrid or Liverpool

Farnborough Royal Asamoah (sp?) looked good for Shrewsbury too

Don't go there - flatters to deceive. Has no awareness of team mates in a better position to him and demostrated perfectly his need to "show off" when clear on goal he does step overs to allow the defenders to catch him.

Can pull of the odd moment of superb inspiration - but not, in any shapoe or form, a team player. Even Peters describes him as "frustrating".
