The Eircom league is it's country's top league, as the Premiership is our top league.
If we signed a player from Celtic I guess you'd see that as plucking a lower league player from obscurity as well !

And no - I wouldn't dismiss the Scottish league like that. After all it has provided the first British winners of the European Cup, the first British club to reach 2 European cup finals, winners of the Cup winners cup and many other notable campaigns.
And all with a population of about a tenth of that of England.
The Eircom league is full of good players - but it is [imho] a lower league.... as is the Welsh league. So by your sophistry we could look to a signing from Carmarthen Town or Bangor as being the equivalent of a signing from Real Madrid or Liverpool
