Alan Partridge Coppell Out? Nah.

But questions should be asked of his utterly tiresome team selection, the fact that he never brings subs on until it's far too late (another 3mins for Long today) and today's lineup and tactics were so bad that in itself should question anyone's sanity!

There isn't anyone out there who could manage this squad of players any better, The problem is that some of these players just aren't good enough anymore.

You're kind of contradicting yourself ... on the one hand you're accusing SC of various tactical errors - 'tiresome team selection', 'bad subbing', 'lineup', 'tactics' and at the same time saying no-one could do the job any better. What's the point of going on and on about what SC should do better if as you say yourself no-one else could do a better job?

Because I can still question what he's doing in the present. What he's doing wrong. Doesn't mean I think he should go.

To be honest though if I agreed with you - that he's tactically inept, doesn't select the right players, doesn't now how and when to make substitutions - I'd be calling for his head. I disagree with you. I think he had a tough task today selecting a strategy that would not result in an embarrassing and demoralising defeat against one of the strongest teams this season - anyway reading the bbc site it doesn't sound at all like we were out-played :"Reading created more chances throughout the 90 minutes but were denied by both the profligacy of their strike-force and the reactions of Villa keeper Scott Carson."

Carson made 1 save today, when we were 2-0 down.

Hahnemann made 2 saves. Important saves that is.

Kitson put one wide, Doyle put 2 into the top tier. That was it.

Reading were AWFUL today.

He's picking the wrong players at the minute and TODAY he got the tactics totally and utterly wrong.

Shorey? god help me...... Doyle?

What about those two players? Both are playing awfully at the moment. Doyle is a tidy player going through a lack of confidence in front of goal. This is where a manager should take Doyle out and try one of the others. Shorey I am seriously concerned about. He is playing really poorly at the moment.
I'm with you AP

(It just took a lot of courage and Kronenborg, to dare to suggest such things on here)

I think we should offer Neil Warnock the job.

If anyone should be worried about their position it should be Wally Downes, our so called defencive coach.

Royalwaster OK the tenor seems to be that SC is not good enough:

a) he can't sign decent players

b) his team selection is suspect - he trust the old crap, and doesn't bring in our young stars

c) his tactics are weak

d) he doesn't make substitutions when he needs to.

OK, so does that mean we should get rid of him and bring in someone else - say Big Sam? Put your money where your mouth is boys!

you really are a simpleton

Queue the "Coppell Out" brigade, demanding a European spot and argueing that we should be trying to break into the top 6 and Coppell is a crap manager.

Maybe he has, but I also believe absolutely not only that he has taken us to a level that no-one has any right to expect, and also that he is far and away the only one to keep us at that level.

I'm also sure that he knows what the problems are - but the simple truth o the Premier League in the 21st century is that it's all about money.

We simply cannot attract the right players with our wage structure set the way it is - that's a simple fact and there's no value in calling for SC's head because of it - the wage structure is nothing to do with him.

Those who think we should sack Coppell should consider this.

If struggle to attract new players then what makes you think we will have any better luck attracting a new manager to a club that struggles to attract players?

Not unless the wage structure cahnges.

But if we do, at the same time we will change immeasurably as a club - we'll turn into a clone of Bolton. Lots of foreign players coming in for the money, sating for a year or so, doing nothing for the community - and the "Reading Way" will start to evaporate, too. Also, if we do go down, the crash will be a lot harder, financially.

In any case, we will never progress enough to be a Top 4 club.
