Mind the sand doesn't get stuck in your eyes.

Just one thing before you go - perhaps you could explain just what Steve Coppell did right on Saturday. Sorry, but his halo is starting to slip and if he doesn't sort things soon, it could end up more of an ankle chain!

Wrong again, from the Man who counts:

JM said: "Even when we went through that glitch of eight league defeats on the spin, nobody ever questioned Steve's ability as a manager.

"It would have been complete lunacy to even consider changing the manager. Changing managers is not necessarily the answer to anything.

Sorry, unless he goes of his own accord he ain't going anywhere.

Before the end of the season perhaps - in the summer, who knows...

If we go down, then maybe he'll resign - he won't be pushed.
If I was him and we did go down, I would commit to the two year contract and push for Promotion for next season.

If I didn't get there, I would wish RFC all the best and join Palace again or something.

He's been the man saying that 'Contracts mean nothing in Football', he's right, because usually they don't.
It's been a bit different this time as opposed to others when he's retired, because we're not in Administration or his hands are tied, or he has a rubbish relationship with the Chairman.
I don't think he'll resign, because his hands have not been tied, he has a great relationship with the RFC setup and he has developed this team.
This is his team...

Hopefully he has enough pride and determination in RFC to continue, then this will allow him to complete his agreed Contract with JM, after that. we'll see.

How does he the fact he is going nowhere prevent his halo from slipping?!!

So the man who counts (his money) thinks he is brilliant. That doesn't mean everyone else (apart from those saddoes who on command rise to applaud 'John Madejski, Chairman of Reading Football Club') has to share that opinion. At this moment in time Steve Coppell is failing and one thing I certainly would credit him with is the honesty to admit that himself.

Of course he is not doing as good as he would like.
You can of course spout absolute bollox saying that Coppell thinks that he's not failing.
Where have you read that?

I don't applaud JM whenever he enters the pitch, why should I?
Why does that equal the point that I'm making, which is that it doesn't matter how loud you stamp your little feet, just because the going's not good - JM will never, ever sack Coppell.
You can't sack him.
Would you - given the choice?

Most people are giving Coppell a bit of slack because he has given us SO MUCH, most people trust him, and yes most do not want him to go.
In comparison to throwing the baby out with the bathwater, demanding a change.
Get used to it, it's football.

I haven't heard a Coppell out chant yet.
I'll look forward to hearing the first one.

Cod I was in the Rose and Thistle on Sat, and the subject of Hobnob came up - to a man, everyone said they dont bother going on here due to the obssesive negativity, utter stupidity, abuse of our players and risble short termism of the posters on here.

I too am sick to death of it, and will not be coming back. Constructive criticism is one thing, but as soon as I saw Coppell, the greatest manager in our history, starting to get abuse for being bald - you pathetic weasels. Well done for poisoning this forum.

I know it's gone down hill, and everyone drinks in the Nags, but c'mon it's still a nice place to drink in the summer.

I think you need to learn to read. I wrote: 'At this moment in time Steve Coppell is failing and one thing I certainly would credit him with is the honesty to admit that himself.'

Nor am I stamping my feet demanding that Coppell be sacked. All I am stating is that he needs to fix the problems and fix them damn quick! At present he is failing and his halo is slipping.

Seal I'm not sure what's more concerning - that you get so worked up by an internet forum or that you talk about it in the pub...

Why would people not talk about HNA in the pub before a game? People talk about football before a game, share their own opinions and recount the views of other people, and articles they've read in the press about the team, so what's so wrong about discussing the Team Board on HNA?

I have never understood why anyone should feel it is appropriate to sneer at anyone confessing to talking about HNA to other members. It's just human interaction about shared knowledge / experience / interest. It's just bizarre to suggest because it's on a forum it isn't real life therefore you're not allowed to either think or talk about it in when you're not online.

I hope he does stay, yes mistakes have been made this season but I think he's the best manager for us, whatever the division. If he left and we got relegated I think it would take 5 years to build another team, rather like it did with the current team.

papereyes I actually think the imbeciles are the ones who prattle on about having faith but each to their own.

I'd say the ones in the middle who are concerned but open minded are ok and either ends of the spectrum are the imbeciles.

It is patently obvious that we are not fine and that everything isn't rosey. Equally we are not worse than Derby, relegation is not the end of the world and it isn't certain and hasn't been certain since as early as October. Which some posters would seem to want you to believe.

I agree RR. Despite the negativity and the bickering that goes on here I love HNA. It has been a huge help to me personally as someone who knew very little about the club or Prem football in general when I first joined. If you are genuine in wanting to learn and ask questions people are more than happy to help. If you act like you know it all already then people are more than happy to take shots at you. Like anything else in life you get out of it what you put into it.

And I understand why people are negative at times. When you care so much about something, like Reading FC, it is painful when things go wrong. When the team fails to make moves to improve the club and we are so close to being relegated after only two years in the top flight it can eat at you. When you have supported the club your entire life and have gone through the down times you want the good times to last as long as possible. I get that. In the end we all want the club to do well. So go ahead, whinge, complain, bicker, compliment, encourage, suggest. It is all the same. It means you care. When people stop caring and stop participating then that's when I would start to worry.

I really don't see it like that at all.

The team below looks far too strong to be doing anything other than challenging for an auto promotion place if it happens to find itself in the Championship. Compare it with squads of Charlton, Stoke, Bristol City, Hull, Palace, Watford etc. and seriously tell me I'm wrong.

Hahnemann
Rosenior Bikey Sonko Golbourne
Little Marek Harper Hunt
Doyle Kitson

With a decent bench (or 2) in Federici, Cisse, Pearce, Long, Karacan, Henry, Kebe, Duberry, De La Cruz, Oster, Murty I think we still have enough youngish players (mixed with the required experience) to maintain a squad capable of jumping straight back.

I am only assuming Shorey, Convey, Gunnarsson, Lita and Fae depart (I think) and I really can't see any more than 1 or 2 of the rest moving on in the event of relegation.
