If Parkinson survives the season I wonder whether some of the thinking is to get Murty in line for Kinsella's job...

Focher The Murty of 2005/2006 probably will never be bettered in my lifetime supporting Reading, and agree with AP Rosenior will probably never better that season. Its the end for him here in my view which is unfortunate.

I think sentiment has taken over the asylum.

Fantastic servant for Reading, an extremely good captain for us but in all honesty, at his best he was only going to be a decent Championship level player.

As people have already said on this thread and others, unfortunately Murts is at that stage of his career where he keeps picking up niggly injuries that will never go away. He has been an absolute rock for us and I wish him the best in his career after Reading, probably post this season.

According to the Charlton website "He has a strong mentality and a lot of experience. Obviously, he joins initially for a month and that gives him a chance to get some games under his belt."

Parky clearly wants him for longer but will Parky himself be there when the month is up?

Parky should be there at the end of the month as he's there on a permanent basis now.

How permanent is permanent in football management?

Im talking about right back never being bettered from that season. Name me a btter RFC right back than Murty in that season? I totally agree championship at best, thats why he was sh1t in the premier league. I get the impression you think i was saying his performance will never be bettered by anyone when i mean any right back.

Murts finally getting a pre-season now at Charlton. He'll be back, he still has a lot to offer us at squad level. He is club captain and you cant under-estimate the impact he has within the club.

Rosey is improving, but he's still young, and I remember around the time we played Charlton earlier in the season, he in particular was getting a lot of stick on this site for his performances. All players go through bad runs, get injuries etc and I'd be very confident with Murts coming back into the team, and with improved match fitness, could keep his place - who knows.

You dont become a bad player overnight, you can become an unfit player - and this loan move will fix that.

See you in a month Murts!

You said that there would be no better performance from a right back ever, during your lifetime... well, how old are you may I ask?

Murty was solid and dependable during our promotion season, but never spectacular. I think a lot of his success that season was down to Glen Little more than anything else, as the two of them formed a solid partnership on the right flank, in which Little was obviously the memorable factor.

For what it's worth, Shorey was better than Murty in that season, so why do you feel that a right back could not reach or exceed Murty's level of performance from here on? This is Liam's first full season here remember.

Murty wasn't a total loss in the Premiership. I thought he was quite solid for most of 06/07. I wouldn't want him playing up there again though.

I can't name a better RFC right back, wasn't Murty ever present apart from a couple of games from Makin?
If you think that his performance at right back in that season will never be bettered by an RFC right back now or in the future, then you're living in a sentimental cloud cuckoo land.

One Beer is never enough. http://www.charltonlife.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=22602&page=1#Item_0

They're not overly impressed though........

That might be a slightly misleading statement. True, many are not happy that it is only a loan signing. Others are unhappy that it is pushing out someone they regard as an up and coming youngster. However, the majority seem to speak quite highly of Murty and feel he can do a good job for them.

Rosenior > McMurty

Get rid now so we might be able to get some money for him I say.

So not overly impressed but suitably impressed.

Don't know why charlton fans would complain at this move... tbh they really cant get much shitter than they already are and this move will help stabilise the team. He has bags of experience, something there team lacks!!

Charlton will be a pig of a place to get to. Brentford, QPR or Swindon would have been a lot easier, poor bastard.
