Brendan your thoughts?
To come here and keep a clean sheet is excellent, so defensively we are strong but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know where we need to strengthen and where we need to be better. You can always be happy with a point and second half either team could have won. We were better defensively than we were with the ball, it's a second clean sheet in three games and that's a good achievement, but we have to be better with the football.

You kept them pressed in during the first half.
In the first half our pressing and passing was good, then in the second half they pushed us back a wee bit and it become more of a counter-attacking game. Even then we had a chance, a couple of near things. You can see the spirit and determination is good. We've shown we can play but we need to be better with the football, have more courage and a wee bit of responsibility.

What did you think of the penalty incident?
It looked a penalty. The ball was whipped in, Monk has headed it, it's not intentional but it's hit Cisse's arm. It was a terrific save, it enabled us to have hope in the game.

Late on there was something of a melee and then the game livened up.
It became emotional and it's important to keep that emotion in place. When you see the incident, it was nothing really. Hal slipped, pushed Nathan [Dyer] over, the ball was smashed into Hal and both sets of players then went to protect each other. There's no drama, it wasn't a bad game.

In that last 20 it could have gone either way.
It becomes a transitional game, they go forward to score but defensively we were solid. Jay Tabb got away for one bless him, he apologised afterwards because he felt he should have scored and Noel was unlucky for one.

So how do you feel about your progress?
Defensively we are solid. First game against Forest we were very good but didn't score, Newcastle was a great experience which we will learn from long term, and then coming here was always going to be a good test. We know what we need to work on and now we look forward to a home game on Saturday, another good test.

Are you looking to bring someone in to help you in the final third?
I will never hide, we have to start hitting the back of the net. I am hopeful, very hopeful we can do that and look to get one or two players in.

Didn't sound that strong to me, sounding lucky but glad he's still hopeful to get one or two players in.

the reading repersentatives at half time tonight looked like they are future academy players and have been learning from our strikers through 2009. we eventually get one shot on target wth the last kick of the penalties, pretty much emulating the entire 90 minutes tonight

Come on guys, just be grateful that we must have one of the best bank balances in the division. 11,000 mugs renewed their season tickets on the hopes of a great new era, all those lucrative player sales, wage bill substantially reduced, just one permanent signing and one on loan - kerching!

Money in the bank is far better than goals!

How lucky we are to have JM in charge.

And all of you guys who last season predicted a 'fire sale' or 'sale of the century' - you were wrong.

But only by a season.

As for those who have spent the last two seasons assuring us that everything will be fine....

I think we had a corner last night and on several occasions we've had throw ins in the opponents half of the pitch so things are improving....

So, why did those 'mugs' ever have a ST before we were a top of the CCC team or even in the PL? Maybe, just maybe, some of them are fans and would still go regularly to watch Reading in League 2. maybe, just maybe, some of them have watched Reading in the bottom division before and still enjoyed their excursions to do so. And maybe that is what being a fan can be about to some people?

Correct. I have seen them get relegated and then nearly relegated again, but I still went. As for the current rut, I would be more concerned if we hadn't signed anyone and the transfer window had closed. That would then be time to worry as SLong is useless and I don't think will make the grade at this level (happy to be proved wrong though). As for right now, we are not playing well but it will come so cheer up and have a bit of faith. The people in overall charge are the same who got us up last time, without spending big but letting the manager build a team. Some people on here need to lighten up a bit

I reckon Rodgers is trying his hardest to get a striker in for the weekend.

1.6m is our final offer what if they say no??? that will be a complete waste of 3 odd weeks going for 1 player along with egg on the face of hammond and buck

I like to study precedents. They don't actually prove anything, but they can give you some comfort:

Last year Donny Rovers, just up from way below were a bit at sea at first. They scored 5 goals in their first 10 matches. Then they scored 53 in their next 36 games and finished a repectable 14th.

And then we have Hansen's "you don't win anything with kids". Beckham, Scholes and Butt sarted together, along with Giggs who was only 20 but had a couple of years under his belt, and they won the League in 93-94. Nobody had heard of the first three and Giggs was still a youngster. What if our players gelled after a few games finding their feet and became even a fraction as good as these four?

There you are: comfort...aaahhh.

I hear that Mr Rodgers is introducing a new concept to training this week:

Apparently he's hit on the idea that putting the ball into these things during an actual game causes excitement & delirium amongst supporters and good things to happen to his players wage packets.

Trouble is it means that that music could be heard again at the Mad Stad and the previous management had been working so hard to comply with fans wishes, for the club to stop playing that damn tune (thus the signing of Jimmy Kebe), that its proving difficult to re-educate players.
