winchester_royal The one who will go furthest IMO is Siggurdson, by far the best technically of the lot. Hal and Jem are also decent, and could eventually make it for a lower tier Prem team.

There are some serious talents waiting in the academy ATM as well. Baggie and MacDonald will be better than any we have at the moment IMO.

IIRC didn't you(or was it another Winchester poster?) used to go on and on and on and on.........about Henry.
Out of interest have you now revised your opinion ?

It was me. Blinded by the foolishness of youth,, although TBF it was during the time when we had John Oster at RW.

Henry still has talent, and he's probably better than anyone at the club in terms of crossing, but his lack of strength/pace seems to let him down. Could still come good though.

Top Flight The jury is still out on all of them......

I like Sigurdsson, but his lack of pace probably will hold him back. That's not something he can train harder at and get better in. He just aint got pace.

Sidwell and Shorey both looked class acts for the Villa last night. None of our youths are as good as those two or have the potential to be as good.

But they are two of our best players ever: it's a bit unfair comparing the new ones to them.

Is it true that 'pace' is something you can;t develop ?

If it is then why are there sprint coaches ?

And how come atheletes get better and faster as a result of training ?

Plus as a central midfielder blistering pace is nice to have but hardly essential.

I'd rather have someone with an eye for a pass, a decent shot, posititional sense and a strong tackle than a sprinter.

If the potential and ability is there then the coaches will help bring it out - but all the sprint coaches in the world can't turn someone without the potential ability into a sprinter.

It all depends on which proportion of muscle fibres you have - fast twitch or slow twitch. In a nutshell, an athlete with a large proportion of fast twitch fibres will have the ability to run fast, an athlete with a large proportion of slow twitch fibres will not.

Karacan - Cemented himself as a first team regular and looks to be one of our best academy graduates to date.

Siggur - Looks very good on the ball and plays Steven Gerrard esque role behind the striker.

HRK - Looks skillfull on the ball, but i see consistency the problem for him. Also he can't tackle to save his life!

Davies - Sidwell esque

Bignall - Haven't seen him play yet but from what I've heard he sounds an explosive player with pace and power. One for the future perhaps.

Pearce - The next John Terry in the making ;)

Pearce and Karacan have shone the most for me and I like the look of Davies, Sigurdsson and Robson-Kanu.

pearce and karacan are the two that look most able to just slot in - which is probably why coppell trusted them last year
davies and siggurdsson & HRK after that

............but only as a result of the football they got on loan under coppell.

pretty much proves to me that coppell was right in his selections last year.

Even he admitted he got them wrong so you don't really have a leg to stand on with that.

Henry, for me a real talent, and with time wil shine, given a chance
Pearce, already had some good seasons with us and out on loan in this division, steady, and will get better with age.
Kanu, has talent, don't know if he is consistant enough, but some times he is really good.
Davies, I like him alot, didnt know if he could step up but has proved me wrong.
Glyfi, showing at the minute he is already set fot championship level footy.
Church, in the right system, given time to learn his trade, a future wales and reading star I think.

Not so sure, for me, about the other lads yet, but we do have a hell of an academy.

Even if they dont all have royals careers, most will have decent football careers

Karacan and Davies for me. Both of them are exciting to watch. All that energy.

I'm sure Pearce is very good, just not as exciting.

I wish Church would show as much promise now as he did pre-season.

i believe theres real validity in coppell feeling he was able to rely on the players who had delivered for him before, over and above those who had not done so before.
it just makes sense, in any sphere of management

and i have seen very little this season to suggest that swapping coppells team for the kids last year would have done us any good whatsoever

JK and AP got the games they deserved and needed, though they werent relied on for the full season, as at that age its a big ask, and could do more damage than good confidence wise.
davies and siggurdson judged not quite ready, and needing game time- resulting in that they are nearly ready now.

i know youll disagree, but thats what makes the board so interesting

Jem and Pearce for me, with Siggy and Davies looking potentially very good. Not sure about all the HRK loving tbh, haven't seen him do anything of much note and he seems a bit clumsy, will happilly be proved wrong though...
