Watford winger Jobi McAnuff is expected to sign for Reading in the next 24 hours for an undisclosed fee.

The Hornets have confirmed they have given an “unnamed Championship club” permission to speak to McAnuff.

After missing out on Tommy Smith, former Hornets’ boss Brendan Rodgers has moved to sign McAnuff, whose Watford career was resurrected under the Northern Irishman last year.

McAnuff is the Hornets highest earner and the Hertfordshire club are expected to save as much as £600,000 in his wages alone.

The winger has frustrated fans for much of his time at Vicarage Road since signing for £1.75m from Crystal Palace in 2007.

But the former Wimbledon and West Ham man excelled under Rodgers, after being brought back into the starting line-up by Malky Mackay, and had a strong finish to last season.

McAnuff has been injured for much of pre-season and struggled to find the same form so far this campaign.

I've always liked McAnuff when I've seen him play, and Raziak can certainly do a job. Hardly the most inspirational of signing but better than what we've currently got and should go a long way to sorting out our goal scoring problems. Hopefully we'll get someone else before the transfer deadline but I'm not holding my breath.

As said before Watford m8 of ours refers to him as 'McHadEnough' as like Kebe, he r8s him as 'lazy and gutless'

tbh these 2 signings smack of panic...it's like we put all our eggs into one basket with the tommy smith thing and when that went pear-shaped we suddenly decide, oh let's get somebody in or there'll be protests about our lack of spending, so the club proceed to buy two cheap and readily available players (coz they are not rated by their clubs) and will announce it with great fanfare no doubt

i applauded the Mills signing, i thought he ahd the right "dna" for the club, young, with good potential etc., but these 2 signings confirm that the club is just making up things as they go along, full of spiel and spin and guff AND OF COURSE CASH BUT UNFORTUNATELY LACKING IN INTEGRITY AND QUALITY PLAYERS

I predict we will survive by the skin of our teeth this season which really is amazing because just a few weeks ago my expectations were play-offs minimum, incredible how aspirations can be destroyed in a matter of weeks, well done Reading FC

I've always said Rasiak would be a good signing. We don't need someone who runs around alot, or can run fast, just someone who can hold the ball up and score goals. Step forward Grzegorz.

McAnuff is a really good player on his day, and Rodgers seemed to get the best out of him; Glad to have him on board.

Two experienced, proven signings who are exactly what we need ATM.
