When was the last time RFC made a big signing that everyone (or most everyone) thought was a great signing?

That's an honest question b/c I cannot recollect one in the past 5 years.

But I would have to admit that these loans and "signings" sound more like the dealings of a league 1 (or MLS) club than a Championship club looking upwards...

tbh id rather this than some random rich guy coming in, paying a few millions, getting some success, and taking his money away leaving us fooked.

the onkly scenario i can r3eally see working out is if there were a local billionaire, who had some affinity for the club.
but if they existed, theyd have come in already i presume

LoyalRoyalFan You have to spend big to replace big players. Reading are trying to do it on the cheap again. McDermott has been given a budget that reflects this.

That is utter bollocks.

How much did we spend on Gylfi?

We spent time, effort and the money it takes to run an academy each year on Gylfi.

Agreed, but

£7m >>>>>>>>> (time, effort and the money it takes to run an academy / number of players through academy)

So we are already "spending big" then?

No we're wasting money developing players for other clubs.

It's not wasting money when you get a £7m return.

All the comments about " where has the money gone" and whether Gylfi should have gone or not, are irrelevant, the facts are he has gone and bloody good luck to him, we have groomed and developed a possible world class player of the future. The point is with the £6 or £7m we havent done anything to make the fans feel that we are looking to push onwards and upwards, I just hope to hell that McD has a loan striker in mind once the top teams 25 are all announced. No critisism of McD here he is doing the best he can under very trying circumstances, and if it wasnt for him taking the managers job, who the hell would with the financial restrictions that have been put on him.

It's OUR academy it should benefit OUR team for more than one season before we sell. We produce a good player get 7 million that pays for people like Harte who are way past their best before date and repeat the process again and again. Clubs like Hoffenheim profit and we stay at the same level with no way of strengthening.

No. All things being equal, we get £7 million to strengthen with. Or, to put it another way, it helps finance £7 million of prior overspending from previous years.

You really haven't grasped the idea of the transfer market, have you?

Take a look around the transfer news. See if you can spot a general theme of richer clubs buying the better players from clubs with less money then them.

Perhaps you'd also like to take a look at how some clubs even pinch young players that have been trained at other clubs. Say, for example, a 16 year old Icelander, who'd been trained up and brought through the academy systems of a couple of Icelandic clubs, before being plucked away to a richer club in another country.

ALOL @ the naivety.

sandman is spot on.

The sale was for JM's pocket and NOTHING ELSE.

This is a business to him and NOTHING ELSE.

Which is why I don't give two hoots how much 'we' got for Sig.

Part of the problem I have with Madejski is that his heart just isn't into it any more. He's wanted to sell up for a long time and whereas in the past,ie summer 2005 stumped up a million pounds for the signing of Lita he just doesn't want to know any more. Perhaps he needs to be a little less greedy and sharply reduce the asking price for the Club. We have, after all, been on the market for bloody years.

The accusations that the sales of players have been going straight into Madejski's pocket have been going around for several years now. People just believe what they want to believe despite there being no evidence to back it up.

Unless he's paying back the money he loaned (which he doesn't appear to be doing) or paying himself a massive salary/bonus (which I believe the accounts didn't show either) then just trousering the cash would be illegal.

Again - PROOF PLEASE. Just because you repeat it enough doesn't make it true.

If you can prove that the money has not gone into the club coffers but the pockets of SJM Ifair enough - otherwise, whatever your thoughts on the man (and I'm not his biggest fan) this continual witchhunt (which is basically what it seems to become) is pretty distasteful.

By all means have a go at the mistakes, there have been more than a few and celebrate the successes (of which SJM has been more than a part) but seriously get a grip with the personal attacks.

I just don't entertain the idea that no one's interested in buying RFC sorry. So many consortiums & the like have bought other clubs with less potential than Reading.

If our balance sheet is looking so pretty these days then surely we're a mouthwatering prospect for someone?

Before people retort with "But buyers can get Cardiff for £1 so it's cheaper". Yes maybe they can but they are taking on the debts & having to refinance them. With us they don't have to do anything of the sort. It's a ready made club with decent infrastructure & a new ground.

It's utter BS that he can't sell. He is holding on for a monster price & putting buyers off.He will have to be prized off his throne with a fcuking crowbar much like Elizabeth II.
