Sutekh JM has said clearly that no new player contracts will be negotiated until the ownership issue is cleared up. Therefore no-one will be added on loan or short term deals and all players whose contracts expire in the summer will be left waiting until the club sorts itself out.

Unlike his 'Cledge' regarding the availability of transfer funds to Adkins in the last window, I bet this is one assurance that he will stick to. That's another fine mess...........

madstadblues I am looking forward to the local media's view on this will it be

a) Royals plight & financial meltdown continues losing premiership star to promotion rivals

or

b) Royals decide to let Chris Baird go due to great form of Williams, Akpan and Guthrie & injury uncertainty

Don't know about the local media but I'm pretty sure the club's official line will be b!

SPARTA

SPARTA So he's been with us trying to get back fit, he gets fit, and we can't afford to offer him a short-term contract. That really does highlight our financial position. Still, who needs Baird when you've got Akpan..

Where does it say we can't afford to offer him a short term contract?

Well Adkins said he wanted to keep Sharp and he couldn't afford to, so... We're also putting off all contract talks until the summer for everyone who is out of contract, so it's a very safe bet to suggest we are not in a position to bring in anyone else until players go!

Nowhere then? Cool

Not getting Chris Baird is just as good news as not getting Billy Sharp isnt it?

Could be an indicator that Adkins has moved out of his 'Getting bang average people I know' phase.

Reading were unable to keep hold of the former Fulham player due to finance reasons, however, and after leaving the club in January, he was signed by Burnley until the end of the season.

"He trained with us on Tuesday, so he had been with us regularly," Adkins is quoted as saying by Get Reading. "The idea is that we would have been in a situation where he could have stayed with us at least until the end of the season, but that's not materialised.

"We wish him well because he did really well in the time he was here with us. But likewise he's not been getting paid since January and he can't hold on forever [for a contract], can he?

Doesn't say we couldn't afford him, it says we weren't in a position to offer him a contract, which concurs with previous statements that we can't sort out any contracts while the ownership situation is up in the air. Carry on though

Meh, started very well and then quickly went off the boil. I'm far more concerned about Williams' availability.

Whether it's because we couldn't afford to sign him or because we can't sort out any contracts while the ownership situation is up in the air, the effect is exactly the same. Thanks to Madejski and Zingarevich, Adkins is being forced to fight for promotion with at least one hand tied behind his back. That is unfair on him and it is unfair on the supporters.

I don't know how anyone can seriously argue that Madejski hasn't completely f*cked up his attempt to sell his business i.e. Reading Football Club. If a budding entrepreneur appearing on Dragons' Den agreed to sign over their business in a similar manner, I suspect we would all find it highly amusing and be asking WTF?!! TBF I doubt any of The Dragons would have the cheek to try to buy a business on such terms - at least not whilst the cameras were rolling!

I am presuming we haven't brought anyone in on loan to bolster the squad for a push to the play offs because we can't afford to get anyone? If Adkins gets us to the play-offs it will be nothin short of miraculous tbh tbf. You can't tell me that Adkins has all the players he would have liked and enough cover in some positions. Well, you can, but I wouldn't believe you.

If the club is to believed, the not too far off return of Morrison, Bridge and Leigertwood would be like three new signings.

Ady, Mick and Donut agree we couldn't keep Baird because of our financial troubles. But what do they know..?

At RB, and tbh I'd rather have Gunter there at the moment than Baird.

So if we could afford him, why weren't we in a position to sign him then?
