Snowflake Royal I'd fancy at least three of Rotherham, Bolton, Birmingham and Ipswich to be in the bottom six/seven. Really don't have a feel for the top this year, there's not really anyone who stands out to me. Forest are spending a lot but haven't really been anywhere for a while and spending big like that often backfires. Derby and Leeds are perennial chokers, the relegated teams don't seem that strong to me. Villa are potentially screwed financially. I'd fancy Middlesbrough to be in the top six, but I really can't call the rest.

I'm pretty happy with this combined with this:
Snowflake Royal Interesting view, thanks. I don't feel particularly threatened by any of the relegated teams this year and would expect at least one to be in bottom half danger. There really don't seem to be many obvious relegation candidates with the likes of Millwall and Brizzle doing quite well and the likes of Reading, Brum, Hull and Wednesday surely likely to improve (please at least in our case). I'd love to see Birmingham stay a shambles and actually drop this time though.

Didn't big Mick say that every club that's sacked him got relegated under their new manager the season after? That'd be amusing, given the Ipswich fans I know were saying they'd prefer the excitement of a relegation fight to another boring midtable snorefest.

Ipswich, Bolton, and Rotherham the bottom three, Birmingham one place above in 8th bottom. Hull, and Wednesday improved. Leeds choking. Middlesbrough could still make top 6 with 1 game to go. Forest still nowhere. That's not too shabby.

Snowball I can't find the old thread, but apart from 3 teams horribly off I am pretty happy with what I posted before the season started

Yet can quote verbatim from it......?

It's almost as if you wanted to start a new thread with your name on it.

I had written it in Word so cut and pasted it

In which case finding the old thread would have been trivial (if you'd actually had any genuine intention of finding it).

What a weird thing to lie about.

LUX I'd rather see all those posts where most of you lot had us down as relgation certainties as recently as February.

In 96 days time we start all over again. With the loanees gone. The squad on paper is even weaker than last summer at the current time. Gomes and Howe have some important decisions ahead of them.

It's all a bit weird really, grown men dragging up year old posts in some online "I can piss higher than you" contest like it's some sort of alpha male validation.

All I detect is metaphorical wet feet and the smell of stale urine mixed with regret.

What's the point of making predictions if you don't
look back at some time and see how you did?

I was 100% truthful. I always keep longer posts on my own hard drive
and I almost never use the horrible search engine here.

You are out of order.

So in Snowball world:
"I couldn't find" equates to "I didn't bother searching".

At least be honest about it.

No-one's stopping you from privately reflecting on your own success but no-one else really gives a shit, particularly when you have year old drafts of your posts saved in Word, poised and ready and particularly when, by and large, everyone's predidictions have shown a similar level of accuracy.

No one has massively over or underperformed bar Stoke who have thrown everyone a curveball by being a bit shit.

It's why I never do predictions, it's just a licence to indulge in onanistic gloating.

I think Wigan will be a lot better side than the last time they came up. Paul Cook is a decent manager who plays expansive attacking football. Don't be shocked if they're one of the divisions surprise Playoff entrants.

Bet you £1000 they’re not.

I'll come in on this too.

So we post publicly but read in secret. Why not give up predicting altogether?

The Prediction Competition has managed to go for a whole season.

Perhaps we should make all the entries anonymous in case we upset some old codger

That's exactly my point. The prediction competition is exactly that, a competition and somewhere for you to wave your willy in self adulation if you feel the need because there's a tangible measurement.

As for as I can see, this thread was not a competition but a point of discussion so who cares if you did better than anyone else.

The big talking point for me is why Stoke are the one club who consistently defied expectation. It would be interesting to see why they bombed as badly as they did because they had a decent squad for this level and always seemed to be relatively well run.

I'm happy to hold my hands up and say I was wrong, but it was possible. Usually a side coming up surprises and with Wigan's good football in L1 the previous season there was no reason it might not happen. Turns out for whatever reason (lack of investment, player sales etc) they struggled as badly as us.
