McAnuff on the move?

Reading captain Jobi McAnuff has revealed he would consider a move to the UAE.

The 31-year-old, who guided The Royals to the Championship title last season, was in the Asian country last week on a training camp with the club.

And the Jamaica international admits it’s a move he would consider making.

“I’ve been on numerous occasions for holidays because I love it here, and I came for a training camp once before when I was with Watford FC,” he said.

“I know there’s a number of other clubs here at the moment and it’s the ideal place to come because of the weather, the facilities and the fact that it’s not too far to travel from London.

“I’m not closing any options off as I’d definitely like to experience football somewhere else in my career.

“Obviously the MLS in America is an interesting option, but I’d definitely consider a move to the UAE Pro League in future.”

The country’s Pro League has been praised for the developments it’s made in recent years, something McAnuff has noticed from his visits.

“I always notice the League on TV when I come here for holidays; there are some big profile players out here now like Gyan and Quaresma, and the League is definitely growing in stature,” said the former Crystal Palace man.

“I saw the UAE play at the Olympics and they were very, very impressive for large parts of their games, and I noticed a couple of players in particular that really stood out. It seems like they’ve got the talent and the ability, so it will be interesting to see if any of the local players go and play abroad because it’s always good to test yourself as a player at the highest level.”

The Premier League outfit trained at Al Wasl’s Zabeel Stadium complex, a facility which impressed the Berkshire side’s skipper.

“The training setup at Al Wasl has also been a positive for the players," he said.

“The main issue when you go abroad for a camp like this is the training facilities, because you don’t want to affect the standard of training too much, but the facilities at the Al Wasl training complex have been brilliant.”

As for recent performances, Brian McDermott’s men are just one point from safety after an upturn of form in recent months.

And McAnuff hopes the warm weather break can give them an edge in the run-in to the end of the season.

“The weather makes a nice change from England at this time of year; it’s good to have a bit of sun. It definitely benefits us both mentally and physically and gives us a lift to make a real push for the rest of the season.”

He's creative, skilful, passionate, full of tricks, exciting to watch, disciplined in defence and a true team player. Above all else the younger players look up to him, not just because of his experience but because as a pro he leads by example. He really is a vital part of this Reading team, and I'd go as far as to say that his impact on the pitch is equalled if not bettered by his impact off of it.

Nobody in this Reading side is perfect, in fact our entire team has been built on the philosophy that when we work together "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts", and if it wasn't for leaders like Jobi this just wouldn't be possible.

Haters gonna hate, players gonna frustrate, but Jobi is my m8, so jog on! 8)

Maguire
Royal With Cheese I'm going to have to watch the recording now to check. Well, not now, when I get home.

I was just going from memory but the odds are that you're wrong here m8

Possibly.

FTR, I didn't watch last night. Forgot.

Well, having review the footage I can confirm that Hunty was off, for the 2nd time. However, he was about 20 yards behind Jobi when the ball was played into the box. Not even Ray Houghton would have hit him from there.

It was around the 15 minute mark.

McAnuff considering long-term future

Reading's Jobi McAnuff has admitted he would consider moving to the United Arab Emirates in the later days of his career.

The 31-year old is currently contracted at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of next year, but it unsure whether Jobi will be offered an extension at the club. While he admits the UAE is an option, he also wouldn't rule out the possibility of moving to the MLS.

Speaking to Shoot.co.uk about whether he would consider a move to the UAE, the Royals captain said: "I`ve been on numerous occasions for holidays because I love it here and I came for a training camp once before when I was with Watford. I`m not closing any options off as I`d definitely like to experience football somewhere else in my career.'

'I know there`s a number of other clubs here at the moment and it`s the ideal place to come because of the weather, the facilities and the fact that it`s not too far to travel from London. Obviously the MLS in America is an interesting option, but I`d definitely consider a move to the UAE Pro League in future."

Can I see Jobi being here beyond the end of the his contract beyond 2014? I doubt it. We are a club in transition at the moment and despite the fact that McAnuff has been a great servant for this club, his peak as a player has very much passed. Would this then give the green light for HRK to start regularly? We'll see.

Fair enough. Seems about right.

We are.

Bullsh/t. He's playing some of the best football of his career and finally reached the highest level.

Would this then give the green light for HRK to start regularly?

I hope not.

We'll see.

Clearly you don't.

At this stage of his career he needs to be moved inside, where his all round game will suit him and the team.

This side needs to be built around all rounders like Jobi and Akpan and not the Guthries of this world (or, sadly, Karacan for now).......................players who can defend and attack with an engine that enables them to do their work at both ends of the pitch.

It's a real shame we failed to land Ince or Siggy as I believe this was the plan.
