Royal Yank Agree about Lita - but I don't think Oster was the man to sacrifice, he was having a good game.

I thought Oster had gone off at half time - until I saw him replaced by Lita.

What a sickener, the most gutted I've felt all season. Some stereotypical scouse robbery.

cmonurz Today's results mean ... Sheffield United's home defeat to Newcastle means ... Warnock's men slip into the relegation zone on goal difference.

Colin's Baldes were already in the relegation zone at start of the day - on fewer goals scored.

Another view from listening to the match on the radio...

It seemed to me that Kuyt was absolutely amazing today for Liverpool. Every two seconds it seems he was causing us trouble. How come we didn't man mark him after it became evident after 3 minutes that he was causing us problems?

Can anyone who actually watched the match confirm (or otherwise) hsi contribution?

I'd give him MOTM, but that's just based on how many times his name came up in the radio commentary.

Kuyt is a quality player, who reads the game so well, and works very hard. Bellamy was so bad it was laughable and Crouch was back to jumping beneath his height again.

Inga was immense today and easily my MOM. Was a better performance than most though than we have seen of late, which is why the result was such a disappointment.

Thought Doyle looked well off the pace as well today, don't know whether he is still carrying an injury. I was disappointed to didn't bring on Long latterly as I think he would have troubled them.

I thought the Oyster had a very decent first half against a very good Liverpool defence and gave them a fair bit of trouble. As mentioned earlier in the thread he seemed conspicuous by his absence in the second and I can understand him being subbed.
Overall I was pleased with the effort, endeavour of the lads and on another day could well have sneaked it against a very well drilled Liverpool defence.Carragher was sheer quality and our forwards got very little change.
Certainly a game in which our icemen were absolute gems.

Liverpool were very average but took their chances, thats the difference between the top sides and the rest of the league. Obviously they weren't going to come here and go for it due to their Champons League game last week but they did a job. They defended well and when they had chances they took them.

We had them on the backfoot for a good 20 minute spell in the second half but couldn't create anything. Even our goal wasn't anything more than a half chance. As the game went on the freshness of their subs told and it was no surprise the winner was a move by two of them. Shorey was done like a mug by the average Pennant who put in a good cross for once and Kuyt finished it off.

Lita should have come on when we were pushing them, instead he came on just as Liverpool were beginning to take control.

The game was there for the taking after we got the goal but as usual we don't have the quality to really carve open the best defences.

I thought Sissoko and Mascherano were fairly poor in the middle and Harper and Sidwell more than matched them for most of the game, we just lacked quality on the wings and failed to test their full backs.

It's the fickle modern supporter I'm afraid. His team got beaten 2-1 today and he's jumped ship already.

Ideal
International Royal I thought Oster should have stayed on

Why?
He couldn't put a decent cross in all match.
Made simple schoolboy mistakes, and fluffed it when through on goal.
I thought he was shit.

Royal Fleet Bellamy was so bad it was laughable and Crouch was back to jumping beneath his height again.

Couldn't believe it myself just how bad these two were. Yes, Ivar was superb against them (and Dubs in outjumping Crouch on several occasions) but I'm just grateful Kuyt didn't start. Strong on the ball and a good touch that caused us big problems IMO.

On a separate note, Gerrard proved yesterday that he is cut from the same overpaid, I-play-for-England-and-if-you-tackle-me-it's-a-foul cloth as Lampard and Terry. Bunch of prima donas the lot of them.

AthleticoSpizz Reading versus LIVERPOOL

...what seems to be the problem?
We could just as well have won, they weren't that good.

Or is your attitude that if Liverpool, Manure or Arsenal come around we should just drop our trousers and bend over, since they've already won long before kickoff?

Who we played doesn't change the fact that Oster missed a one on one where he really should have scored, and that he failed to deliver a proper cross all match.
Oster was shit.

Come on, easy on Oster. I'm not that big on him myself but he did well yesterday. I still believe he's better to suited to cameos when the game is stretched and there's more room. Yesterday though he was good and played his full part in a good team performance especially considering who we were playing. He is a good footballer who keeps hold of it well and doesn't always take the easy option. If Kitson and especially Doyle had been on their game yesterday they may have got something because he was giving them good service.

Having watched the game yesterday it was the first time this season i was properly frustrated with the end result. Given the chances we had and the second half improvement we really can only blame ourselves for not gaining a point. I think it highlights how Reading have ironically become naive at the seasons end- we have to accept that a point against a class team like Liverpool is a good result and not keep pushing for the win which leaves us exposed. For many seasons (even under Pardew-well other than the disasterous run of draws to take us up!) we have adopted the win lose mentality. I have nothing against that, especially being in the lower divisions it meant we racked up the points to put us in a position to go up. However there are games in this division where we really do have to settle for the point, yesterday as an example a point would have totted up our points total and given the players confidence that we can bounce back after being 1 down.

Now we go into Charlton with only the 0 0 draw against Pompey to show for in recent results, which will be in the back of the players minds. Coppell's report on the game indicates that going for the win affected the result, so it really needs the players as a team to put this into practise on occaisions where a point is good enough. I had a sneaky feeling that the run up after the Gunners game our form would take a dip-in the grand scheme of things it hasnt overly bothered me. Talk of form being affected for next season is rubbish-its the preparation pre season that counts. All i would say is that we need to get over our naivety in thinking that we can grab a win against the perceived top clubs when a point is a precious one.

Ideal, the standard of defending is much better in England than in Norway. Whilst Oster's shot was poor, a ball travelling across the penalty area with defenders coming towards it is not 'a one-on-one'.

Yep, completely proved me wrong. I thought we would be in trouble with Gonzalez's pace, but he didn't get into the game.
