I wish him all the best of course but, if he is appointed on Monday and we are thrashed at Bramhall Lane on Tuesday, it will be interesting reading these boards on Wednesday.

If that happens I'd steer clear for the rest of the week if I was you.

It really will be interesting. It shouldn't happen. If he can motivate the players the way he has in the cup we should be able to get some points in the next few games... but if not... I for one will rapidly lose what hope I currently hold for our championship status.

2 world wars, 1 world cup
M-U-R-T-Y
2 world wars, 1 world cup If true I am disillusioned beyond belief and am speechless.

The way I'm feeling right now I'm shocked and extremely upset if true and for the first time in 28 years I'm not sure I will be able to bring myself to see my beloved home town play again this season if true.

 Some people on here astound me.

For "some people" the love for Reading runs far deeper than you will ever know.

That is an incredibly presumptuous and condescending thing to say and you do yourself no credit at all making assumptions that you care more than someone else you don't know simply because they disagree with you.

I'd be ashamed of that post if I was you.

Its surely just a matter of time until they give him the job. Cant be any doubt he will be here up to the end of the season now can there?

I quite like the bloke, always have from the snippets we got to see about him. Would rather we had a more experienced man at the helm though, if not they I can see the point in getting rid of BR in the first place. As much as he was a bit of a tit infront of a camera or microphone, he was getting the team to play creative passing football

My main worry is that we will still lack the quality in the squad and wont have the money to change that

My main worries about McD is that he hasnt had a great impact on results as yet. He seems to have us playing a bit more direct percentage football which I would rather not go back to, and finally, if we give him money will he be able to spend it well

Hmmmm.... I felt that way a few weeks ago. But if McDermott can instill a bit of fight into the side that ought to be enough to carry us to safety. As we've demonstrated in the Cup we can play decent football. Hell, under Rodgers we played some decent football at times, albeit lacking the finish.

I too am really annoyed with the way it's all gone, and I was livid that Rodgers went without there being a replacement being lined up, or even the idea of an outside replacement being in mind... But McDermott looks like he could do enough to keep us up, I guess we'll know after the next few games, but I'm nowhere near as annoyed now as I was just before Christmas.

We knew that unless McDermott royally messed up he'd get the job. IMO it is a bit early to give it to him, but having said that it could be a good thing in that it is a vote of confidence and that might give us a bit more stability.

We'll see. I understand your frustration and anger, but I reckon we'll pick up some points soon and then you won't feel half as low.

I totally understand the concerns on this thread about our league form under McDermott, it has to be of major concern all round, but to appoint him, if this is true, with no improvement in our league results and effectively on the back of two player "shop window" and good income cup matches is slightly baffleing does madejski realise that we dont get league points for winning cup matches ???

I also agree that if it goes wrong on Tuesday in Sheffield, after the suggested appointment then all hell will break lose on here and deservedly so.

What record? He's only had 4 games.

Going by what we've seen on the pitch I'm a lot more hopeful about the team picking up points now. Forest were really good and a lot of that team were done in after Liverpool. Swansea again a good side, and a point gained. Plymouth - disaster. But stuff like that happens. Bristol first game, not reading much into that one - and a draw in any case.

There's not much point in bringing anyone else in now - it's too late, so they may as well back their man now. The vote of confidence should be good for the team spirit. It is what it is, I hope everyone, like you gets behind him and the team. It's what we need now more than ever.

And I for one, having seen the displays in the cup, would like to see the results from our next 4 games before I make any rash judgements about the guy.

Some obviously feel that having seen the displays in the Cup SJM has done exactly that.

our cup record since 1927 might suggest its not quite the motivational masterpiece you claim it to be........

Yeah but he actually has to put his money... well ok not money... But you know what I mean.

Do I think it's too early? Yes. Having said that doing it now has the advantage of showing confidence in the manager, if that leaks through to our performances on the pitch in the league then it will have been worth the gamble.

I think the only two posts on here so far about Madejski being away override anything else. I do not believe he will allow this to be issued when he is away. As if he is trying to avoid awkward questions. In any case, what is the rush..they said BM was in charge until further notice and he has not done enough to blow it or earn it yet. The players obviously like him anyway so I do not think the permanent appointment will affect them. I will be surprised if this comes out tomorrow.

Spoke to a Woking fan who said he was their worst ever manager (and that against some very good candidates for that title) but that was a long long time ago.

I don't see what possible other option there is apart from to keep him for the rest of the season. That's the only thing RFC can do now, and I wish him all the best.

He's in a bit of a win-win situation really - get relegated and the window-lickers will all blame Rodgers anyway, stay up and he'll be feted as the Messiah.

His money is very much mixed up in the fortunes of the club so, yes he is putting his money wherever it was you were about to say...

I would have left it longer but I think the pressure, from the press and from McDermott himself, was becoming too great.

Ian Royal I'm not unhappy, although I'd have liked a league win in their first to help quiet those who will no doubt moan their arses off at this if it proves true.

I will be one of those moaning their arses off, I don't much fancy League One and that is where we're heading.
