Royal Lady My point is there was someone lower down who cost a quarter of what we sold for Long for. Brighton took a punt. We allegedly didn't sign BWP because he was injured but he's been scoring consistently too.

£3 million is not a bloody punt! It's an awful lot of money, money that we simply can't afford to spend.

So how come Brighton can?

Royal Lady We're in the situation we're in now, financially, because we paid shit loads to so-so players in the Prem. And we're having to pay the price now.

We're in this situation, because we gambled on going up the first season after relegation, and Coppell and his cronies fcked it up.

Rubbish, when Coppell stayed there were others that stayed as he remained, Doyle and Hunt would have left that summer, imagine the task of a new manager, out, Kitson, Hahnemann, Hunt, Doyle, and more, that would have been one hell of a rebuild, and there would have been no money to do it.

Snowball See where we are in another 7 games, total 11, about 25% of the season

If we are in the bottom 3/4/5. then feel free to moan

If we are between 5th and 10th feel free to say, "RFC look like they've got it right again."

Blathering after 4 games is absolutely nuts.

Ipswich have just lost 2-5 and 7-1. I expect them to challenge for the top six

Not with that twat as manager tho

We were coasting towards promotion. Yet in the second half of the season we didn't win a game at home, and missed out by a point or whatever it was. Who would you blame for that?

That'll be the Rogers situation then.

I blame the players, they signed deals that meant they could move if we failed to go up, it meant that an injury could cost them a summer move. I also blame the football culture, succeed and you get a rise, fail and you get the same deal, it is nonsense.

Coppell said at the time he could not understand why it was not happening, and could see no way to change it. Match preperation was the same, yet what happened on the training ground did not turn into performances on the pitch.

But it's the manager's job to understand what is happening and then make changes from there!

Sorry, but Coppell saying that he doesn't understand why we're losing does not absolve him from blame.

He made changes tho Little and Kitson came back on loan, fans thought it was a good idea, sadly Kitson had no interest, and neither did Little anymore.

Fans kept saying that Bikey was a god, and that Matejovsky was the best passer seen for years, even Kebe was seen as a shining knight, yet rarely really shone for Coppell. The players let the club and the manager down

Coppell had too much faith in our over paid players that they'd actually turn up and play for us that season. Shorey being a prime example. We doubled the wage bill in our first season in the Prem from when we were in the Championship - that's where we made the initial mistake I believe - salaries were over inflated and I doubt very much that when we got relegated the remaining players' wages went back to what they were before we went up.

Schards#2 LOL @ people who don't react to the bleedin' obvious until it smashes them in the face. Sell your best players every year and replace them on the cheap, or don't replace them at all, you will get less and less competitive.

We have this exact same spasfest every year, including last year when we went on to the play off final.

Reading have spent the majority of our existence in the 3rd tier and below.

In a Market where the vast majority of our competitors lose money, every single year we will pay a price in league position for doing the sane thing in an insane world.

Agreed that getting too carried away at this early stage, and when the window is still open, isn't the most sensible but from the clubs point of view they should be looking very closely at what needs to be done. Doing that, and improving where they can, is already doing it 3 months too late. Waiting until October when we can't buy players and most of the good value has long since be snapped up just isn't the way to run a club.

Reading have spent the majority of the past 29 years in the second tier or higher. Get your eyes off the floor.

We missed two penalties, which if we had scored would have been a good win. And now suddenly we have collapsed? Christ on a bike some of you are really stupid.

They can't.

They have a rich chairman paying over the odds.

That said, they'll be averaging 20,000 a week this season, which also helps.

To be honest I think we'd probably have lost even if Shane Long had been there. We've had a problem since pre-season, and in some of this season, in being very half-hearted for long stretches of games, particularly in the first half. The players just don't look up for it if you ask me, and after last season's good late run, perhaps the players think they are better than they are.

Barnsley are a poor team, after all, and they are a team we should be beating. We weren't good enough last year to win such games by just turning up and expecting to win, so it's a poor attitude to think they can do this year.

As counter-intuitive as it may seem it could actually be good for us to underperform a bit in August. We are probably more likely to strengthen if the team is we look a bit lacking than we would be if we were in the top 6.

That's exactly what I said yesterday. Be thankful we look a bit ropey as BM is far more likely to get some cash! 12 pts from 12 & we'd have heard "The group is good enough" etc etc. Plus I actually like the fact we gert better as the season progresses - it makes for a more exciting season.

Wouldn't it also be nice to play some better teams pre-season? We played all non-league/lower league this year - so if we manage to beat them, it doesn't really tell McD anything - we need to play better teams imo.

New players bought in to the club and on board for the pre season games would really help.

As always we leave it until it's too late..... Bongo and Pearce look like they have never met.
