West Stand Man
MmmMonsterMunch I must be missing something here..........

I actually thought we played rather well in the 1st half. If some of the final balls had been more accurate we could've had the game won by HT. Thought Karacan & Hunt were outstanding 1st half.

Admittedly 2nd half we weren't so good but I certainly didn't think it was bad. Antonio put a decent shift & Gorkss was immense as always.

Strange.

Other than not being prepared to go as far as 'outstanding' for Karacan and Hunt, I agree with this. They were, however, pretty good throughout. Gorkss continues to impress - he was an excellent buy.

Antonio put in a pretty good shift. He has pace and the ability to get in behind defenders, his final ball was lacking though and that is something that will improve with experience. How we went in 0-0 at half time defeats me. We carved them apart for 44 1/2 minutes (I've allowed them 30 seconds for the long free kick that looked goal bound). How the Pearce chance at the back post failed to go in will haunt me and him for a long time. Having said that, it was the longest 45 minutes of football I have seen for while, seriously lacking in sustained excitement.

Second half wasn't much better from an excitement perspective and Hull cam back into it. They were still much the worse of the sides, but the fight was more obvious. My initial reaction for the goal was that McLean was well offside but Brady was just on. How it is deemed 'not interfering with play' when a player chases the ball down and gets to within a couple of mm of touching it (with intent) I do not know.If the current directive to referees is that the player has to touch the ball then we could see some interesting scenarios (offside players in front of the keeper nor being called in future for instance).

We will also see play allowed to continue for ages as a clearly offside player chases after a ball for twenty yards, just in case he changes his mind at the very last moment, stops and lets a team mate take over!

Pandoras Box Play to the whistle was how I was taught. All standing in a line looking at the ref with your arms up rather than trying to chase it down............Look..look.. Mr Ref it's not fair.

The point is for me is, how on earth is Federici supposed to know which player to close down? He's stranded in no man's land. Instead of fully committing to one or the other he must have been full of doubt about if McLean was offside or not, so must have been wary of the potential pass and hedging his bets accordingly. It's an absolute shambles of a decision.

Ah well, these things happen. It's not right, it's not fair, but let's not dwell on it and turn it around next game.

Handsome Man Wind-up or a post-modern plan to create your own scapegoat to confuse team board thickies?

I just don't know what you are on about.

Then you couldn't have been at the game yesterday.

Anyone claiming Karacan played well is infuriatingly ignorant and stupid. I'm not going to list the things he did wrong again. if you didn't see them you weren't there or you have a naive tendency to refuse boy wonder could ever have a bad game. He played well last week, was diabolical yesterday as a few others have also commented.

As usual, a lot of comments here seem to be determined by the result more than the game itself. Yes, it was tight and lacking in chances and creativity (hardly surprising in such a tight league, 5th playing 6th). Yes, we lacked cutting edge, but is that surprising with 3 of our 4 first choice midfield missing (including our two main cretaibve threats). Yes, Karacan's passing was erratic, but the lad does the work of two players in the middle and we'd be worse without his. Yes, Antonio is a long way from the finished article and faded in the second half, but I thought it was his most promising performance for us so far early on.

We didn't deserve to lose - Hull were gifted the win by the comical offside goal. On balance, should have won but a tight and slightly dull 0-0 was the most likely result. And they happen sometimes. It isn't a disaster and doesn't deserve the knocking from so-called fans that the first two pages of this thread contained.

Thought the game was very scappy, yes we weren't great but we will get games like that in a season.

I must have been watching a different game as thought Jem was our best player (aside frokm 2 passes early on!-It was windy!). I don't see the fuss with Church - he works hard yes but I beleive he is not good enough to be starting weekly. He has not stood up.

We badly needa creative spark, I think we need an attacking midfielder as a priority. Jem to do the hard work and one to go off and set some goals/chances up.

The lino def stitched us up, he hesitated about three times for that goal which put the players off. 99/100 times the flag would go up. We had one off the line and think gorkks should have scored first half too.

Overall our drop off 3 places shoes how tight this league is going to be. I'm in hope for 9 points from next 9 now and a decent signing to give us a boost! I can hope.................

Going forward Karacan wasn't great and will improve. He is there though to break up play and protect the defence. To expect him to be our creative midfielder as well is a bit much.

He did his job and did it well. Those that understand the game will understand how important he is to us.

Here the goal, you cant really see if he was offside but i assume he defiantly was. But how the hell can you say hes not interfering with play, he almost touches it.

Not really, I know for a fact im right and the people claiming he had a good game are wrong. If anyone has a full copy of the game they can upload, I will quite happily edit all the parts karacan took part in...and post them here so people can't avoid whats black and white in front of them...and wait for comment. Its absolutely baffling just how blinkered the majority of our fans opinions on him are. Its like trying to educate children.

I didn't notice any defiance in his offside, but he was certainly interfering, as you say.

If anyone including you wants to help find a full 90 minute of that game on film, as i've said I'll quite happily edit the game to include the parts karacan took part in just to prove his vocal fanclub on here wrong. Anyone can make the link public on here or direct me to where I could find it please do.

I will look for you and let you know.

I imagine 100% of the people that have said he played well were at the game, so it will probably be a waste of your time though.

I would doubt that very much, how did you like his assist for the hull goal? or twice in the first 8 minutes where he passed into touch?

He's exempt because he's karacan...you are just backing it up. let me guess you are also a church hater.

The goal is offside.

99% of the time, the linesman will flag the second a player goes offside. McLean has spent a good 10 seconds chasing the ball from an offside position.
