Walsall in my supporting history, think the first time we played them was 98/99. Didn't know much about them then but by Christ the matches against them were utter sh*te.
98/99 - H 0-1 (Keates); A 2-0 (Williams, Brebner)
00/01 - H 2-2 (Cureton 2; Leitao, Barras); A 1-2 (McIntyre; Matias, Byfield); N 2-3 (Cureton, Butler; Goodman, Rougier OG, Byfield)
02/03 - H 0-0; A 2-0 (Hughes 2); FAC H 1-1 (Aranalde OG; Wrack); FAC A 0-0
03/04 - H 0-1 (Samways); A 1-1 (Shorey; Leitao)

02/03 the absolute nadir, four games against them, four goals across the 390 minutes played, we scored three, they scored one and yet it seems they still managed to get the upper hand against us.
Hopefully that was just a blip in form, hopefully we'll despatch Huddersfield and look forward to a tricky tie against a good side who have been knocking on the promotion door for a few seasons now. Can understand their POV, we're hardly a plum draw but it gives both sides a chance of progression. However from our side, provided we do away with Huddersfield, you have to be confident with the firepower at our disposal, I genuinely believe our league position is in some ways false (there is no way we should be knocking around midtable with the squad we have) and feel that McDermott will have us improving game on game. Anyone who thinks it will be easy is deluding themselves, but if you look at the record books Reading sides of the past 10-15 years have a tendency to win these types of games where we are playing a team from a lower division, particularly in the FA Cup:-
00/01 - Grays Athletic 4-0; York City 2-2 & 1-3
01/02 - Welling United 1-0; York City 0-2
02/03 - Walsall 0-0 & 1-1 (1-4 on pens)
03/04 - PNE 3-3 & 1-2
04/05 - Swansea City 1-1 & 1-0; Leicester City 1-2
05/06 - WBA 1-1 & 3-2; Birmingham City 1-1 & 1-2
06/07 - Burnley 3-2; Birmingham City 3-2; Manchester United 1-1 & 2-3
07/08 - Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 & 0-1
08/09 - Cardiff City 0-2
09/10 - Liverpool 1-1 & 2-1; Burnley 1-0; WBA 2-2 & 3-2; Aston Villa 2-4
10/11 - WBA 1-0; Stevenage 2-1; Everton 1-0; Manchester City 0-1
11/12 - Stevenage 0-1
12/13 - Crawley Town 3-1; Sheffield Utd 4-0; Manchester Utd 1-2
13/14 - Brighton 0-1
14/15 - Huddersfield 1-0; Cardiff City 2-1; Derby County 2-1; Bradford City 0-0 & 3-0; Arsenal 1-2
12 ties encompassing 15 matches against teams in a division below, we've lost just three of them, two to York and one to Stevenage. We have only been taken to a replay twice by teams in a lower division in that time too.

Decent record for a club like us if you ask me. I only tend to worry if we draw teams in our own division which we invariably end up losing...
