True...sounds like he is waiting for an offer and then it depends if our board accepts or Rodgers makes enough fuss to get a move rather than maybe seem disrepectful and resign straight away?

I've heard through the grapevine from a friend in Germany that Jurgen Klinsmann may well be interested.

I suppose it would be excellent publicity for RFC and he certainly played fantastically attractive football when he was the German national team coach.

We could all get into the Klinsmann dives again!

I'd rather a younger up and coming manager who hasn't been up there and done it yet than a bit of a old hand (albeit a successful one) like Curbishly.

A good record and previous success reduces the gamble, but like signing a player, any appointment may not work out as sometimes it's just being the right person, in the right place but at the wrong time.

I'm not sure Curbs is ever going to recapture his Charlton success anywhere else because it took a long time to build that up (and he had the buffer of getting rid of Steve Gritt to help through the lean years at the start). These days he might just end up getting the sack before getting it right.

I see Rodgers is only on a one year rolling contract - Maybe he only went to Watford to prove himself in the 6 months he was there in the hope he did enough to convince powers that be here that he is right man for the job - and judging by Watford fans comments he clearly is.

Rodgers it is!!

Go get him.

Should put Steve in the list.
It may not be constractive, but I don't want to think about the life after his departure right now.
Wish we will be the manager of big club after his break, and come back to be the manager of Royals someday once again.

Just to add that on another thread I've justified my ABC (Anyone But Curbishley) stance- as it's in UR&G I'll share it here :

IMHO it'd be a real backwards step [with Curbishley] - in a lot of ways I feel he's backward looking instead of forward looking, and I think it'd take him too long to get up to speed with the players. He tried and failed with West Ham where he didn't come in and take control - he came in to a club in crisis with rock bottom morale and lots of dressing-room in-fighting and wasn't able to stop it. I think he's too weak and too nice, and won't impose himself onto players.

Never forget that he took over when West Ham had imploded, with all their Billy Big Bollocks Baby Bentleys and their complete loss of discipline and motivation - he subsequently said he knew it was happening but there was nothing he could do to stop it - he even did an article in the Sunday Times talking about the indiscipline and the high-money card schools on the team coach that were dividing the team. Curbs - you're the manager - do something, don't just write newspaper articles about it!

People remember what he did for Charlton, but forget his record at West Ham.

Its a fair point, but in Curbishley's defence he didn't have much control at the club anyways. If the club was selling players without him knowing, its quite hard to take control of players, he didn't really have control of. The way West Ham is run it was always going to be difficult for him, given the chance at a well ran club, i.e. us, I think he could do a good job.

What abait Nicholas Hammond though? He might have the same problem here.

This is an interesting article - from a West Ham fanzine discussing how poor and negative Curbs was for them.

Totally different IMO. Hammond is basically a link between Manager and board and deals with the negotiations and paperwork. He's not there to cut the manager out of the loop, just provide a buffer so he can get on with working with the squad day in day out.

I'd also say we have much less of a backstage problem than West Ham had. Kitson will be gone. SHunt must surely be going and Lita is gone. Shorey went last year. THat's most of the troublesome lot IMO.

Every time HNA? goes into meltdown, I think a new manager has been appointed.

I guess there'd be a few rumours leaked out before it got that far though, in reality.

What about the ginger haired bloke down the A327. He likes promotion with very attacking football.
