I will be one of those moaning their arses off, I don't much fancy League One and that is where we're heading.

No changes there then.

FiNeRaIn League form has been awful under BM so not sure why there are so many " i'd be happy with this" comments.

Only really one poor result under BMcD.

How many points do we average under under BM compared to BR in the league?

And what was the league position when Rodgers went compared to now? Rodgers was bad, yet somehow we've still managed to go backwards!

This, if true, has been coming for a few days - tbh we've missed the boat if we were going to appoint anyone else. Transfer window coming to an end and no chance for a new man to influence the make up of the squad.

Not unhappy with McD - he's definitely brought something to the team that was missing before. Perhaps just a belief in their ability whereas BR was always asking more of them (passing skills, ball possession and formations). Back to more traditional values.

Still think we need to find a goal scorer though.

Watching Reading play under McDermott has been enjoyable, something watching us play hasn't been for quite a while. He seems like a genuine, knowledgable guy who the players respect and play for. He's shown tactical awareness, motivational prowess, and an ability to spot a bargain in the transfer market. Three qualities which, looking back, Rodgers did not have.

I'm backing Brian.

Maguire I don't see what possible other option there is apart from to keep him for the rest of the season. That's the only thing RFC can do now, and I wish him all the best.

He's in a bit of a win-win situation really - get relegated and the window-lickers will all blame Rodgers anyway, stay up and he'll be feted as the Messiah.

If true I will be happy enough as there really has been a different feel about our post Rodger's performances. It "feels" like we may have turned the corner but it is still too early to say for sure and if I had been Sir John I would have waited until after next Saturday before making the decision. Something (or at least a good performance) against Sheffield and a win against Barnsley and no doubt McD deserves his chance. Two defeats and we could be a long way adrift however.

Having said that I don't really see many alternatives now. I would have liked Irvine but he has now gone elsewhere. We were never realistically going to get Curbishley and the others mentioned on here really have little more credibility than McD does.

For better or for worse we almost certainly have McD until the end of season at least and I for one wish him well and will give him my full support.

And where were we a few weeks before Rodgers left? We had a brief resurgence, not enough and then started to slide a little again. Our position now has as much to do with Sheff Weds going on a run as it does to our form under McDermott. It has as much to do with losing to Palace and drawing with Scunny as it does losing to Plymouth and drawing with Bristol.

Unless you honestly believe that we would have picked up better results against anyone other than Plymouth under Rodgers. And lets not forget we got poor results against lower placed teams under him.

Trying to compare McDermott's league record before he's managed another 4 - 6 games is pathetic.

When that time comes around, knock yourself out.

Or perhaps being addrift could be the perfect timing needed to settle the team down further. Good luck to the man.

Sarah Star Is Madejski back from holiday tomorrow? I'd have thought he'd want to give the good news in person.

No
I think he'd let the news be released using rumours on an internet message board a day earlier.

That might have something to do with Sheffield Wednesday playing (and winning) twice since our last league game. What do you suggest BM do about that?

Good and fair appointment in the end I'd say.

We'll get the league win in the next week, mark my words. I can imagine it would have taken a few games to get BR's shoddy "World Class Model" out of the system on the team, and since the turn of the year results and performances have been tip top.

Well done Brian.

Well said. Its too late now in any event to bring in a third manager this season so lets just all get behind him and hope we can start racking up some points starting at Brammal Lane on Tuesday.

If he gets the results that's all the matters although Ken Dodd's dog's dad could be manager for all I care so long as the results are good.

Trouble is if we're still looking for a first league win towards the end of February then we'll be wishing JM had appointed someone else...

If it is true, then it is premature. If McDermott had got a couple of league wins, then maybe. How many caretakers have got the job after recording not a single league win?

Yeovil and Rochdale, here we come.

As others have said, it is simply too late in the season to give the job to anyone else and, frankly, I've been so impressed with BM in his short tenure that I believe we need to find out if the guy could be our manager for the next ten years.

I'm backing him, too, but even if he failed and we ended up in the third tier he still might be the right man to take us forward..................................this isn't McDermotts mess he's just the one looking likely to get the the job of clearing it up on a pittance.

 Some people on here astound me.

For "some people" the love for Reading runs far deeper than you will ever know.

That is an incredibly presumptuous and condescending thing to say and you do yourself no credit at all making assumptions that you care more than someone else you don't know simply because they disagree with you.
I'd be ashamed of that post if I was you.

A stupid post even by your standards, Ian. And characteristically condescending, which is ironic given the accusations within it.

Being "disillusioned", "shocked", "speechless" and "extremely upset" is not something one can "disagree" with as you seem to think - it is, rightly or wrongly, fact. I am genuinely very upset by this potential news. The reasons leading up to me being upset may of course be faulty (and I sincerely hope they are) but that I feel upset is a reaction I can't help at the moment.

So for someone to very insensitively and mockingly say they are astounded by *the way I feel* displays a very weak understanding of the emotional tie one can have with a club.

Compare with the gentlemen of HNA such as FS who, although they disagree with the reasoning leading up to the way I feel fully acknowledge that I am (rightly or wrongly) genuinely upset because I'm a fellow Reading fan who cares very much for the club and town and who therefore immediately tried to cheer me up by politely explaining why my feelings might be unfounded.

All I can therefore say in justification of my embarrassing show of emotion (not that I need to justify it) is that such things affect me because of my very deep seated love for this place plus a historical/emotional connection I happen to have with the town, which very few have. It is not at all unreasonable to suggest that one who is "astounded" by (as well as mocking of) someone who gets genuinely upset over RFC matters might not quite appreciate the level of emotional connection that is possible let alone have anywhere near that level themselves.

Sorry for the seeming attack but you caught me when genuinely upset: your views are some of the first I read and some of the time respect and support, hence giving you the dignity of a response.

Games that were delayed from the period that BM was manager?
