I feel that we only want loan players if there is a realistic chance of signing them at the end of the loan period and that's why I would much prefer for example Jack Cork to Mancienne.
If we get say 3 loan players from top clubs such as Mancienne,Wiltshire and Sturridge we conceivably might scrape promotion but having achieved promotion we would have to build again whereas when we went up before the nucleus of the side was the existing first team.
The original concept of loan players was to cover injuries rather than give experience to players from the bigger clubs and whereas the likes of Bournemouth survive by bringing in loan players I think for a club with greater aspirations than survival such as RFC we should be looking to buy our own rather than borrow.

I am not expecting any movement in the transfer market until the Saturday friendlies are out of the way. Tonight and Sat will give BR 3 opportunities to assess the strength of the squad. Expect something to happen early next week and before they fly out to Sweden. Not inside knowledge, just common sense.

Totally agree. Give the youngsters we've already invested time and money in the opportunity to prove themselves rather than giving a leg up to other teams. If it doesn't reap instant rewards I'm still convinced its will be for the long term benefit of the club.

Agree totally about bringing on our own. What I do find interesting is the absence of any of our players going out on loan.

Again though Rodgers still needs to evaluate who he thinks can contribute this season and who would benefit more from going elsewhere for a season.
Whether we like the loan system or not, given the response to most of our players who were loaned out last season I suspect there will be plenty of takers if they are available.

Hopefully there will be takers as it will be a sure sign that we are still going in the right direction.

hope not with regards to bertrand, i think it will be a waste of a loan signing in respect of the fact that we should be trying to get in players who will actually start, unless stretch has been blown out

Who says he won't start - just because Coppell rated Armstrong and made him first choice doesn't mean that BR has the same opinion.

Armstrong was one of our best players last year.
Player of the year in fact.
This loan signing must be a special player.

Waste of a loan signing? Aren't the current rules that your allowed something like seven loan players, although only allowed to play 4 at one time? We won't get anywhere near that number so I don't think 'wasting' one will be an issue.

Happy to be corrected on the rules though.

Bertrand is a very good championship player, and given that at the moment we only have 1 recognised LB this would be an excellent move.

Dervite is very highly rated at Spurs so would again be a good signing.

Looks like Stoch has joined Twente Enschede on a year long loan so that's him out of the equation.

Is this the same chronic that mentioned on its website yesterday that we were signing them today?

If I was a loan player, what would be the point of moving, just to play in another team's reserves rather than your own...waiting for an injury that may never happen.

Bertrand also plays left wing, so perhaps he is seen as more general cover for the left-side than specialist left-back material?
