Get Carter Federici makes few mistakes!!??
He got lobbed at Hull, lobbed at home to Cardiff, gifted Posh one at the end and I'm sure there are more this season.
Alex McCarthy came in last season and was superb and lost one out of about 13 league games, when the defence went missing against Sheff Utd. He did not deserve to be dropped and may have made a difference in the play off final, when Federici palmed another one out straight to the Swansea player to score. Alex deserves to be our no 1, but McD will keep playing Federici and probably sell Alex to Leeds, unless someone comes in for Federici.
.

Two lobs were flukes and if you want to blame anyone for the Cardiff goal blame Kebe who lost the ball. I'll give you the Peterborough one but it didn't make a huge difference. What about the games he's kept us in this season? Bristol City in particular. I notice none of his detractors have given him credit for the things he's improved on this season like saves at the near post. Our problems are certainly not in goal they're in midfield and up front.

Personally I'm rapidly going off McCarthy due to the rabid lust for him his supporters have and their constant over criticism of Feds.

from the leeds website:

People raised eyebrows when Wilkinson paid £2.2m for Martyn and what a player he turned out to be for us. I think if we signed Alex he could potentially have the same impact on our club that Martyn did and at an even younger age. He is a class act - no doubt about it...... However, I just can't see it happening! I don't think Reading would sell such a talent for anything less than £5m and why should they......

What a massive part Alex has made in his short term with us, to say he`s Reading`s number 3 goal keeper is amazing,SG why not put a good offer to Reading,` cash or swap deal, we could get rid of some dead wood, anyway i guess that won`t happen,so good luck Alex and thanks for your help,

I have a feeling Leeds will test us out with a bid for McCarthy in January and that, whatever he might say, Alex will be very tempted to ask Reading to consider it. Assuming the black hole scenario is ongoing I think there once again be split opinions between the Chairman and the footballing management.

I honestly don't believe he will sell him to "balance the books" as I don't think we would get that much for him and I would think he wasn't one of the top earners.

McCarthy has impressed during his time in Leeds, with four wins coming from his five outings to date, and he has little prospect of first-team football at Reading with Adam Federici installed as McDermott’s first-choice.

How unsurprising given the team's form when McCarthy was playing for us last season.

We won't have a choice unless we make him number 1, he's not going to hang around warming our bench for fun when he can be playing every week for someone at least at our own level. It's not worth pissing him off and losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

He's too good for this Reading team. He won't go to Leeds though, I suspect a Premiership team will come in for him at the end of the season. We've seen time and time again that players would rather warm the bench for Prmiership team than a Championship one - and why not!

I thought he got "suddenly cautious" and choosing his words.

Had to do right by the player AND RIGHT BY THE CLUB.

I immediately though "Uh-Oh"

I just have this gut-feeling that McCarthy will be a huge name FOR ANOTHER CLUB.

Hope I'm wrong or we get a 50% sell-on clause.

I would be absolutely incensed if the club sold McCarthy, he really will be a top quality keeper for a top European side in the next five or so years so it would be better to keep hold of him and build a team with him and then sell him for some serious money once he's made a name for himself with us.

MAYBE doing right by the club is keeping him here and making him our number 1 next year.

Doing right by the club DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY mean we are selling players.

Didn't hear the interview this evening but I said a while ago that I think that would be the outcome. There is probably a better chance of Federici and Andersen being here for 3-5 years than McCarthy so it may be that we're now manoeuvring to maximise his value before cashing in.

I think he's too bright a prospect for us (at least long term) so can see why this might be the route the club takes.

You're probably right, Hoop

and it's probably a sensible, logical course (but sad)

It will, though, cause weeping and gnashing of teeth
and a great deal of "educated" comment on this board.

Agreed, but "Doing right by the club"
is, IMO, code for "We are going to sell..."

If Reading sold McCarthy in Jan I would be utterly gutted and angry at the lack of ambition. I'm shocked at how people rate Federici over him and agree that Alex will be a Premiership keeper shortly. We might as well enjoy watching him whilst he is still contracted to Reading and if we played him from now until the end of the season his transfer value would only go up, which surely is a good thing for the madman

Watching the likes of Doyle and Long out grow this club was a gut wrenching experience but at least it was our pitch and our team they left for greener pastures.

If Brian is contemplating off loading England Under 21 International McCarthy and leaving us with "Fcuk up" Fed, having shipped the former out on loan to a rival  I honestly believe this could be the beginning of the end for him here.
