sandman Have to wait and see if Rodgers has gone on to "much bigger things". Walked into a job where the majority of the work to play his "style"was done already and has yet to pull up any trees at Liverpool. Personally I think his replacement at Swansea has done more to make them a better and more exciting team than Rodgers ever did.

Sorry m8, didn't realise Swansea had made the playoffs before Rodgers took over. You don't rate Coutinho, Sturridge or even the guy he signed who captained us to promotion 2 seasons ago? You get an E -

Eh? I didn't think the argument was that Rodgers didn't sign well. His signings at Liverpool have been excellent, but they should arguably be doing better than they have been IMO.

MUCH bigger things! perhaps the playing staff are too thio.get the passing
game. i think we have to give him time. we may need this season to get players out who we don't want and to get players in we need for the style. Patience needed. But we must NOT be in a relegation fight! that would be unacceptable.

But all the time in the world won't be enough if the players aren't good enough to play in the new style.

So what do you do, try to make the players fit the style or change just about every single player?
If the latter ain't gonna happen, and he former won't work no matter how long you try it for, what next?[/quote/]

Think this season may need to be mid table rebuild. hope not but it may take a few transfer window to remove the unwanted and useless.

Time for Tim to retire from commentating on a sport he knows nothing about.

Again, are we seriously writing off our ability to play a style 4 games into a new season from which we've got 5 points and could have got a few more with a bit more luck? Really?

Come on guys, we're all horrendously partisan on here and that's understandable...but some of the crap written on here today really does take the biscuit.

P.S. Rodgers is doing a decent job at Liverpool, following on from an excellent spell with Swansea, so perhaps Adkins being another Rodgers wouldn't be the worst thing in the world eh?

P.P.S Martinez got similar abuse at Swansea while he was trying to evolve their style. Look how sticking with him turned out for them.

Most of the squad are good enough to play the way Adkins is asking them to, but last night wasn't about their ability it was about attitude and application, plus, giving them some benefit of doubt, some rustiness from those who've not played much recently (including Federici who should've prevented the first two goals and completely changed the complexion of the game).

Stick players like Williams, Cummings, Mariappa or Robson-Kanu in alongside the first team playing with the right attitude and they'll cope fine enough.

What a daft, reactionary thread. Adkins has done, in relative terms, so much more than Rodgers has ever done for any club. Rodgers failed at Reading simply because he tried to make players who were suited to a direct game of football play a more pragmatic passing brand of football. It wasn't going to work. Kalifa Cisse as a ball playing midfielder? Do me a f*cking favour. Rodgers may have done significantly better now with the resources at his disposal than he did in his previous spell but is he any better than Nigel Adkins? Give Adkins the Watford squad inherited by Rodgers, Adkins would have done a better job. Give Adkins the same squad as Rodgers inherited here at Reading? Adkins would have done a better job. Swansea? Probably the same result, promotion. Liverpool? Well who knows if Adkins is up to a top job, but Rodgers hasn't exactly pulled up any trees has he?

Adkins needs time, but the difference is that Adkins will get decent, acceptable results in the long run, certainly better than the results Rodgers got. There is no question in my mind we were heading for the drop under Rodgers, an unacceptable outcome given the club's financial situation so the decision was made to kick him out. I would hope that, should we be mere midtable come Christmas/January that the manager gets booted because that would just be f*cking stupid.

Oh, and some of you tw@s on here want the world on a 24 carat stick. You follow Reading FC, so it ain't gonna happen.

And I'm sure Swansea and Liverpool will be delighted in a couple of years but what does that have to do with his time at THIS club?

It shows he's not the bungling idiot that some on here proclaim him to be.

He had his flaws, don't get me wrong, but the constant abuse for a guy who was pivotal in the set up of our excellent academy system is pretty pathetic imho.

BonBoh Good record. Good footballing philosophy. Can't make it work at Reading.

Erm no.

Rodgers had a sh*t record which is why I was one of the few to stick my neck out and say he'd be sh*t for us, and now wear that as a medal.

Adkins has a fantastic record and will come good.

100 goals & 21 clean sheets. That is going to go down in RFC folklore alongside the Brendan Rodgers Bumper Book ofTactics, I fear.

I would suggest most clubs have seen a huge wage increase in the last 3 or 4 years, it's a weak arguement because it's mostly about wage inflation in the game rather than us spending more on players compared to other clubs.
