READING have completed the loan signing of Stoke City defender Andy Griffin.
The 30-year-old right-back joins until the end of the season and is expected to make his debut at Nottingham Forest this Saturday.
But the ex-Portsmouth and Newcastle United player is ineligible for Wednesday night's mouthwatering FA Cup third round replay against Liverpool at Anfield.
Despite the bad weather, the replay is still going ahead at this stage and it is also live on ITV 1 (7.45pm ko).
Royals caretaker boss Brian McDermott told the Chronicle: "We've signed Andy on loan for the rest of the season.
"He hasn't played much for Stoke City so he's been training to us and he looks good.
"He's a hungry, experienced right-back and he's done well at this level before when he captained Stoke to promotion to the Premier League.
"He's still only 30, he's a good age and it's a good signing for us."
McDermott also hinted there could be more additions to follow, though he says he is in no rush.
"We're really only talking loans and you are still able to do things in February so there's no panic," he declared following recent rumours of a possible return for ex-Reading winger Seol Ki-Hyeon who is out-of-favour at Fulham.
And there has been growing speculation over the future of Reading duo Adam Federici and Alex Pearce.
Reports suggest Liverpool could make a £2 million swoop for Federici after the 24-year-old Aussie keeper impressed Rafa Benitez during Reading's shock 1-1 FA Cup third round draw against the Reds.
And Royals' Championship rivals Sheffield United are rumoured to be tracking 21-year-old defender Pearce as a replacement for Matthew Kilgallon, who could soon leave Bramall Lane.
But McDermott insists the club has received no official bid for any of his players.
"We haven't heard anything from any club so there's nothing really to say," he stressed.
Griffin is Reading's second loan signing this month following the arrival of Iceland striker Gunnar Thordvalsson, 27, from Danish side Esbjerg until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent summer transfer.
