Earlier in this thread there was discussion about increasing revenue, and I made a huge list of ideas. Others (and me) mentioned concerts at the ground during the summer period.

For some reason, on Facebook, I see this:

Swindon Town hosting a mini festival. Tinchy Stryder and Venga Boys :P one night. Then the whole of the next day is tribute acts. As you'd expect, there are tons of food options, beer, etc.

Swindon Commercial Officer James Watts said of the concerts: “Last year was the first event for ten years, and we have learned from the little mistakes we made; we are looking at extra bar space, more food vendors inside, and a more vigorous idea around how the VIP will work.

“Those were the three big lessons we have learned from last year, and I feel like we are more prepared now, having done one last year.

“There are a lot of venues, but in Wiltshire, there aren’t really any, and that probably extends to between Bristol and London, that there aren’t a lot of places which can host big acts.

“Realistically, in the long term, I think that we can look at a 10-15,000-people event, but that has to be built up over a number of years.

“We have put ourselves in the shop window to be able to do larger-scale events and attract people not only from Swindon but the wider area.”

This was very similar to my point - putting Reading and the SCL on the map. England B games, women's games, concerts, football tournaments, etc.

Interesting Board meetings in store.

Rob: let's be smart and cautious to get into the Playoffs

Ross K: let's buy Vinicius Jnr and open a franchise on Mars...

Elon Musk has “done so much good for the world,” said Kestin. “He may not be politically correct but he wants to make the world and the galaxy a better place.”

Can't we just go one ownership without having a lunatic involved?

You don't have to be crazy to own Reading FC, but it helps :P

No, we ended up in this mess because we had a guy who decided to stop spending money AND wasted it on useless signings.

I read that a bit too quickly and thought it said " wasted it on useless signage" - I realise there are a lot of signs around the stadium but...

Whilst I have faith that Couhig will be a steady hand and won't bring in any old grifter with a shop in a bomb shelter, on the promise of a couple of quid, why am I getting a sense of unease about a bloke with a skipload of cash talking about Premier League ambitions?.

A very interesting development. Given all the noises Couhig has been making, I don't see a bit more financial firepower causing us to act like Birmingham City and buy the league. But hopefully will mean more focus on infrastructure and sustainable investment, notably our academy, so that when we return to the Championship we're ready to kick on. The quote of the potential investor refers to the Premier League "one day", which suggests a long term aspiration requiring hard work. Couhig's experience combined with more investment could be a potent combo. I also wonder if it's already a potential exit strategy; if Couhig is successful in 3 - 5 years there's a wealthy minority shareholder to sell out to.

More broadly on the footballing landscape, this could be yet another US investor with ambitions to buy cheap and reach the promised land; there are already substantially more than the PL has space for. I do wonder if we'll start to see tensions between ambitious Championship clubs who are starting to pull in US revenue and the EFL, similar to what preceded the Premier League. The idea of a PL2 in the next decade does not seem outlandish. Will be interesting to see how the regulator navigates it.

It's definitely just a case of once bitten, twice Dai on my part.

Couhig always said he was lining up additional investment and with Jacobson as CEO, we will have someone with some insight into how to run a League 1/Championship club, working within established boundaries.

That was always a fundamental problem with Dai, he employed the wrong people to make decisions. Investment in the club is never a bad thing as long as you have people who understand the club making key decisions. I have a lot more confidence in Couhig in this respect.

I get it, after AZ too. But I trust the new owners; Couhig has a track record and is hitting all the right notes so far. More financial muscle for him can only be a good thing.

No we werein this situation because we were the play thing or a rich nut case who threw money away on rubbish building up massive debt unsustainably whilst being an utter failure.

Musk is currently destroying Twitter and the US and is an absolute nutjob mentalist. We want nothing to do with anyone who rates him, let alone him
