What is more infuriating?

by rhroyal » 04 Feb 2011 23:31

Us looking like we'll miss promotion

OR

Negative fans taking absolute delight in a bad night and secretly hoping that the rest of the season continues in the way of tonight so that they can be proved right.

I'm not saying we're promotion material, but please can we get behind the team? The worst thing is not watching a bad game, it's seeing fans on here afterwards saying "I was right all along." That alone wouldn't be so bad, but it's piss easy to read between the lines. I swear STGs delight in our apparent failure to be promotion contenders.

You may be an STG and you're thinking "I'm still behind the team, I want us to do well and I'm not smug about our failure". The truth is you're giving off the wrong impression and it only makes everything worse. I never expected us to win promotion this season, check my posts in October to check. The last thing I want is to see your delight in evidence that suggests my recent hope was false, especially when I was always aware that it probably was so.

Just wanted to get that rant off my chest; STGs do my head in and enjoy watching their team fail far more than they should.

Tell you what's more infuriating!! Mcdermotts loyalty to some players and the ability not to be brave with others.

I am sorry but Church and Robson Kanu are league one ability at best. Latter is poor and for me not once changed the game when brought on. For crying out loud McDermott, pick bloody Antonio, give the bloke a chance and a run In the side! At worst stick him on the bench. We need his sort on the pitch, Manset proved that when he came on, a bit of flair and the ability to run at players with pace!

"Some fans just have something TO moan about!"

I can take sarcasm, but please use the correct grammar.

Well at least you choose an excellent TV character to level your response with.

Just take comfort that whilst Madejski is still in charge, Championship mid table will always be our zone. See post relegation seasons (Lack of investment and player sales) for confirmation

what is really infuratiating is when the RTG brigade start to wake up, smell the coffee and start asking the STG brigade to not be smug about the fact they might have had a point.

I hate to, but agree on HRK (ATM)...

If I hadn't seen Church last year I'd agree he was League 1, also
but he HAS shown ability. His head is not right or something.

But right now I'd play Long-Manset-Hunt and be seriously considering Williams.

ATM (but I am NOT saying Church is useless) it feels like we are playing with ten men. A-T-M

Every team has pessimistic end of the world moaning fans, they also have wildly optimistic never going to happen fans. Most lie in the middle. If we were all the same most threads on this board would be obsolete and there would be no debate....

Its also true that after a defeat fans are going to be at their most pissed off. Like I feel right now.
I should be happy its Friday night. It feels more like Monday morning.

And then i move onto the next match. It's a transient feeling of expectation which is why we should all come back full of hope, quiet expectation and beer.

The more I think about it, the more I'm reminded of us, around 2004.

Same arguments, similarly patchy squad, similar 'form'.

I've been trying to compare that too, but my pessimism last night was rounded off by my conclusion that our 04/05 team was better. Kitson, Sidwell, Shorey, Marcus and Ivar provided a great backbone, you could tell we were only a few additions away. This team has a lot more work to do to reach that stage. The squad does largely have age on its side though, players could grow over the next couple of years.

Not sure about Church who, although he looks woefully out at form at present, probably does have the necessary ability. However, the way Robson-Kanu continually gets the nod ahead of Antonio does mystify me and, I believe, many other supporters. HRK may be one for the future but last night again proved he is not one for the present and, comparing the two players performances to date this season, Antonio looks the far better bet. My radio signal faded last night just as McD was explaining to BBCRB why he is not picking Antonio, although it did pick up again in time for me to hear them say McD had been very honest in admitting that Antonio wasn't injured. Can someone please fill in the missing bits for me.

I could buy into that as long as we could be sure that the club won't keep selling off players when they start to grow/come good.

A return of 12 goals last season was good for Church. he's not looking good right now though, that's for sure.

Different strikers have different strengths. Just like you can't expect Long to be a regular scorer when playing upfront alone, you can't expect consistently good performances from Church without giving him something to work with. He isn't at his best when being asked to run channels, or hold the ball up. He's at his best when we play neat passing football on the deck, with some creativity through the middle for through balls.

It's like asking Kitson to use his pace to beat defences. Or Owusu to beat a defender with skill.
