Friday's Legacy Harpers So Solid Crew As said by McD after the Swansea game and reported in the Independant.
McDermott beamed: "It's a fantastic record. I'll have to ask him what happened with the other three shots! Pavel's been a great signing for us. We knew what he was all about from last summer. We didn't have much money to spend in the summer. We got him on a free transfer and I'm absolutely delighted.
"This is a point gained for us. Swansea played very well and this is a very hard place to come. But we'll take the point today.
Lets hope we don't keep hearing how there was money and it was not spent this time around.
So where did the big investment go, I felt sure it was promised, our most expensive player now cost £2.5m i believe, you don't get one of Shane Longs legs for that.
Would you as the owner let McD spend more, or would you have kept a tight rein on it, in case you had to change managers by Xmas?
When did the club say there was going to be a lot of money invested in the playing staff?
The club repeatedly played down that we would spend big. They have said we will continue to be prudent in the transfer market, and in the future will hope the academy provides more first team players.
Whilst we're discussing an apparent lack of investment in the summer, we have spent more than £10m in bringing in the players we did. That includes all signing on fees. That is a great deal more than this club has ever spent before, and would not have been possible without Anton Zingarevich's money.
Exactly this.
Fans see millionaire owner and billionaire father and assume we're going to spend silly money.
We'll be run in a similar way to Madejski's, only with a budget SJM couldn't have sustained or allowed/risked us to run at. It wont though be a budget that allows for £10m signings. but if we can add more Pog signings over the next few years then this will be an impressive team.
The budget was good enough to get Pogrebnyak, and his agent said the offer blew them away and couldn't be turned down, so it must have been far greater than anyone here can imagine. Some have said £3m signing on fee and a seven figure fee for his agent, then you have the two £2.5m signings plus their signing on fees, and McCleary and Shorey on free's who could both command a big signing fee as well. That's well over £11-12m for this summers signings.
Yet some fans, and remarkably older fans, still grumble.
