The next six games

by RFCUK » 11 Nov 2012 09:37

From yesterdays game we can take the positive that we kept a clean sheet for the first time this season. We know we can score goals, and if we can sort it out at the back, then the next six games might well just be enough to give us hope. Four winnable away games (yes, all games are winnable in theory...) against teams who are struggling down in 14th, 16th, 17th & 19th, some real six pointers there, and then two games at home who no one expects us to win.

(H) Everton - DRAW
(A) Wigan - WIN
(A) Villa - DRAW
(H) Man Utd - LOSE
(A) Southampton - DRAW
(A) Sunderland - LOSE

I'm going for a win, three draws and a to losing games, giving us another six pints on top of the six it's taken ten games to achieve.

I can't predict what the table will look like in six games time, but if we can take a few points from the teams around us, then I believe we can slowly start to climb out, although the gap from the bottom third and top two thirds will be greater. But the aim is 17th or above come the end of the season.

I expected 7 points out of our last three games; All winnable and we got 3 points... I am expecting even more disappointment. When will we actually win a game if we can't win against a shit Norwich side and don't tell me that we kept a clean sheet because of our defence... No it was because of a shocking Norwich who just went for the draw.

4 away games, and the 2 at home are very hard to say the least, difficult to see us having any more than 10 points after 16 games ,

If we get 3 points from the next 6 games we will be doing well.

Well this is all going to be nonsense obviously, but here we go.

(H) Everton - WIN (cue mass celebrations that we're going to stay up)
(A) Wigan - LOSE (cue mass wailing that the previous game was an aberration and we're going down)
(A) Villa - DRAW (cue mass wailing that we're doomed)
(H) Man Utd - DRAW (cue mass confusion)
(A) Southampton - WIN
(A) Sunderland - DRAW

That would be an extremely good and very welcome 9 points.

Not based on anything sensible - just the inherant unpredictability of our results. Although Everton aren't actually great shakes away, 2 Wins, 3 Draws and 1 Loss, unless you count losing to Leeds in the cup as well. They should be easily good enough to win, but that's what they'll be there to do and it might just give us something to exploit as they aren't in quite the same league as Chelsea etc at punishing teams.

What's all this stuff about a shit Norwich side? We are undefeated in five games, are in the League Cup Quarter final, and we've beaten Spurs, Arsenal, and Stoke in the past month. We may have been responsible for a shocking game of football at the Majeski stadium yesterday but we are by no means shit.

You were shit yesterday. Let me rephrase it "If we can't win against Norwich who were shit YESTERDAY then who could we beat?" I am not having ago but even you got to admit, you can't really do anything worse which shows a lot of Readings inability to win a game which is clearly there for the taking.

We did what we clearly wanted to do very well, which is sit back and defend for a draw. Norwich fans are bemused as to why the f'in hell we would go to the Majeski and defend but I suspect it has something to do with the fact that you scored 5 goals against Arsenal and we have shipped five goals twice and four goals once.

It was almost as if we were afraid of you for some reason, which is ridiculous at this stage in the season, although I can see how giving Reading their first win right now potentially could have been a bad thing for us, teams shouldn't be afraid to go all out for three points no matter who they are playing at this stage in the season. If we were 5 points ahead of you with five or six games of the season to play it would have been more understandable.

I don't think that Reading need to have any shame about not scoring against a team who parked the bus and had only conceded one goal in their last three league games. But your clean sheet was no doubt as a result of us leaving one player up front all game with no service.

It was just a terrible game of football, made terrible because we weren't willing to get the ball down and play football. If we had have tried to get the ball down and play football a scoreline of 3-3 would have been more likely. We know that Reading can score goals and we know that Norwich can score goals, as a result it is frustrating to watch that pile of oxf*rd. But by the same stretch, a draw was a fair result.

Football was the loser yesterday, because what should on paper have been a great game was one of the most boring games I've seen Norwich involved in. It was Norwich's fault though, and it was very intentional, please accept apologies on my behalf..... and don't blame your own players for what was essentially a Norwich team given a brief which effectively told them just to keep a clean sheet.

I knew as soon as the team sheet was published that we weren't in it to win it.

I can see us getting something from WIgan and Newcastle.

I'm getting more and more confident we'll do what we did last season, pick up form in the second half of the season. We haven't been playing badly, only over run in a couple of games and had a couple of dodgy decisions go against us. Once we get a win we'll probably hit a little bit of form, bit like Norwich. They're no better than us, at present neither as QPR, Southampton, Villa or Sunderland. We'll be down there, but it'll be close.

Norwich clearly came for the point and we could (and probably should - although that counts for nothing) well have nicked it. Surely you would have expected a team confident like that to have come at us rather than parking the bus, I'd take that as some sort of backwards complement.
