Favourite RFC sending off

by Dick Habbin's hairdo » 30 Oct 2013 13:22

Gordon Cumming away at Brentford in, oooo, I dunno, '73? A solid right hook and wee Gordon just trooped off.

Michael Gilkes away at West Brom in c.'94. A solid left hook on that donkey right back that may have played a couple of games for England.

Oh, and Carl Asaba away at QPR just for the mirth and merriment at be able to give Rufus Brevett even more appreciation of his name.

Andy Bernal at Ipswich - the second yellow was for an excellent rugby tackle.

Also Dave Kitson getting sent off after a few seconds against Man Utd.

Colin Bailie, right in front of the Southbank. Everyone could see it coming miles out.

Gillespie? About 20 seconds after coming on for Sheffield United and elbowing Hunt in the face. Priceless.

April 1983 - Millwall (H). Millwall's Ian Stewart shown a red card for a terrible tackle but just point blank refused to walk. Did the police escort him from the field? Can't remember.

Paul Bodin v Wolves 1997

Gareth Davies was at the centre of a bizarre incident on his Elm Park debut.

The Reading new boy appeared to take a swing at Wolves striker Robbie Keane. But referee Steve Bennett red-carded team-mate Paul Bodin.

Keane was felled by Davies but Bennett waved play on. Davies, obviously riled at what he saw to be play-acting, playfully cuffed the Wolves man, who rolled on the ground in apparent agony.

After consulting his linesman the ref dismissed Bodin, who hadn't even been close to the incident.

The referee said: "I will send my report to the FA and a copy goes to Reading. They are free to make a complaint if they wish."

Edit - was 97

Was that the one where it looked like he was the one that got punched?

This is my favourite at a game involving RFC. Good enough for me.

+1

Not often you see someone on the pitch who looks like they need to be sectioned ASAP, but Bikey managed it.

You could tell wher Bodin stood in the scheme of things as despite it being plainly obvious the club didn't appeal it so the right man'd get the punishment

Thought of this one after the Hernandez challenge at the weekend.

Same challenge - surprise, surprise a different result

Terry Hurlock at Wigan

Ref was eternal homer BT Stevens and he sent TH off for deliberately being fouled and the other guy simply bouncing off him.

I love all red cards but Pog's recently was definitely one of the funniest.
