Strongest XI

by jar95 » 01 Sep 2015 16:56

With the signing of Vydra and Ola John looking like they are set to be announced, what do you all think our strongest team for the season now is?

I'm going with -

Bond
Gunter Ferdinan McShane Obita
GMac Williams Norwood John/blackman
Sa Vydra,

Strong bench as well with Piazon, Huatradom Fernandez etc

Bond
Gunter Ferdinand McShane Obita
McCleary/John Quinn Williams Piazon/Hurtado
Sa Vydra

(Blackman as an impact sub)

Not sure how good the wingers are though so can't make a choice on that yet.

Sa Vydra

OK that's a copout, but I've barely seen half the contenders play for us.

To my mind, Vydra has to play, and apparently he's best in a front two. Sa looks like the best option for the time being.
Williams should probably initially be alongside Norwood, but any of the others could do it and I think Tshibola could be first choice soon enough.
Nobody has any idea about the wingers. I don't understand the John signing at all because we were already blessed in that department. Even Piazon was unnecessary and we could make do without Hurtado.

No idea as I've not seen half of them play but I don't understand everyone complaining that we have too *many* players.

I mean, what?

.............................Bond
.Gunter, McShane, Ferdinand, Obita
........Williams..Norwood..Quinn
...........Vydra..........Sa.......Piazon

With Williams, Norwood, Quinn and Tshibola all playing well (plus Fernandez) and now bringing in Vydra, Piazon and Hurtado to add to Blackman, HRK, McCleary and Sa... it's baffling to work out who the long term plan is for playing in front of the defence.

I suspect Norwood is boned, which is sad given how good he appears to have been so far this season, and how good he was before Clarke came in last season.

Has Jose leant us Hector back and said 'Can you find a nice place on the bench for him all season?'

I can see Blackman getting benched, whinging after his good form, and going in January.

The last thing we want is a load of players who are unhappy that they aren't getting their opportunity. We also don't want to be spending money on wages for players who aren't going to be playing - couldn't we spend that money on cutting ticket prices?

Another angle: Stacey and Fosu must have been optimistic that this could be a breakthrough season for them, now they're probably 7th and 8th choices. If they're blocked by bang average players then we don't get the most out of them.

This is the worry, they have something written in that forces us to play him and break up the McShane-Ferdinand partnership.

Bond

Gunter
McShane
Ferdinand
Obita

Norwood
Williams
Quinn

Hurtado/Piazon
Blackman/Sa
Vydra/Mccleary/John

Jesus this is difficult.....from what I've seen this season (only missed one game) Quinn, Norwood and Williams have all been first class and the reason why we've been dominating games so much so I really don't want to see any of them loose their place in the 11.

However, can't see Vydra playing lone striker and Vydra/Sa combo sounds very tasty...

that would mean playing Quinn LM Williams and Norwood in the middle then one of McCleary, Hurtado, Piazon, John to play RM.....

With all of this, we are still leaving out arguably the in form player of the season so far Blackman.

Is there any point in HRK being here anymore?

WHAT HAS CLARKE DONE?

What's even harder is deciding who to leave off the bench.

Oh Hell.

Al-Habsi, Hector, Fernandez, Tshibola, John, McCleary, Hurtado?

So Blackman, HRK and Taylor. Oh, that wasn't that hard afterall... or have I forgotten someone important...

Meanwhile Fosu, Stacey, Tanner, Kuhl, Cooper and Samuel are

I'm working on the assumption that we're getting John. On form Blackman kicked to the side and no full-back cover on the bench? I find the idea leaving Fosu and Stacey without a sniff a bit :| too.

Cox, HRK and Blackman all not getting a sniff is a lot of wage in the U21s

Still, happy problem to have.

It's bloody hard this.

Hector, Tshibola or McCleary can cover in an emergency situation. Neither Gunter or Obita are particularly frail.
