Was he an academy graduate? Didn’t think we had an academy back then…
But if we are going before academies were a thing You could probably throw ady Williams on the list also

Academy is just a new name and structure for a youth team. Clubs have had youth teams for ages.

Yes I know but what about Reading?. How long have Reading had a youth team? What did we have before the Academy was set up? Did Reading have a youth team in the 80’s/early 90’s ?… Genuine question I don’t know

Yeah. Lovell and Williams came through it.

Most clubs had them.

Yes we had a youth team in the 80s and 90s, Ady and Scott Taylor were prime examples of it. Brendan Rodgers joined as a youth player and got the injury that finished his career.

Sounds pretty reasonable.

They think they've got it bad! They should thank their lucky stars they're not Doncaster fans as Rovers' record v Reading down the years is

P 44 W 5 D 9 L 30

Is that the best record we have against another team? Anyway Stat thread

Yes, over a decent number of games. Not as good as Arsenal's 100% record over us though in the domestic leagues and cups (P14 W14).

As football didn't start in 1992 please add Johnny Brooks to our youth/international list.
He scored twice for England in just 3 appearances.

My own probable similarity to him is that he was born in Reading and died in Bournemouth-hopefully the second part is some way off still but eventually it is quite likely.

It isn’t even correct in the modern era - Louie Soares scored for Barbados, Ji Dong Won has eleven goals for South Korea, Shandon Baptiste has scored for Grenada… tbf quite difficult to be exhaustive.

13 straight league wins from the start of a season is currently the football league record. This record seems to get forgotten far too much being in the shade of 106.

It's usually over and done with by about 6 games into the season. So there's less to talk about.

Is that a league record or a professional football record?
