Goal of the season 2024/25

by Ark Royal » 28 Apr 2025 13:41

Just voted for mine: Lewis Wing's goal vs Wrexham. Wonderful team move finished with a Wing thunderbastard; Sam Smith's beauty vs Cambridge a distant second.

Every single one of the ten are truly magnificent.

I voted Savage against Colchester - he hasn't even been able to fully get the ball under control before he strikes it. Outrageous.

Ooof, that Smith goal would take some beating most seasons... will have to check these out. On the OS, I assume.

This, Smith at Cambridge would have run it close if he hadn't jumped ship

Wing v Crawley for me. Was at that game and sat in the Dolan stand you got a really good view of how much that moved through the air, it went left then right wickedly and the video doesn't do it justice.

Some absolute crackers this year though, we've been spoiled

Wing v Wrexham.

It was an absolutely stunning bit of football - we all love a thunderbastard but that bit of sublime play beats them all, for me at least.

Loved the Wing goal against Wrexham, but I think the final pass slightly overrunning takes away from it a bit for me.

Wing V Wrexham but I tend to prefer a good team move over a 30 yarder.

Contraversially, I'm going to go Wing vs Cambridge.

It's not just spanked in, he's bent that miles round the defenders on the keeper's blindside to place it just nestling inside the post. It's pure skill.

With second being Smith's banger against Cambridge where he has no right to even be thinking about shooting, let alone banging it in so perfectly over the keeper's head.

Very much liked the couple of team goals in there too. And a couple more superb long ranged efforts that dipped under the bar delightfully.

Bindon... its just not fair is it... player of the season at 20 as a centreback and he's got an overhead goal in the goal of the season competion. What an outrageously good player.

+1. I also think that the excellent passing and movement between Garcia, Wifi, and Abrefa is missing a bit from that video snippet. Wing's goals when he has been on the end of a third-man running passage of play in the final third is something that is obviously worked on a lot. Lovely to watch.

This. I love a Lewis PING but it was a joy to find out we also had a bit of total football up our sleeves

The Wing team goal v Wrexham for me too.

I'm struggling to recall any Reading player scoring so many goals from distance as Wing.

John Murray hit a fair few. Quinny too. But Wing must have hit a dozen in two seasons.
