New Owners - Redwood Watch

by MouldyRoyal » 15 May 2025 12:52

I know this has been posted in the confrimed thread but I thought it might be useful to have a thread to cover and discuss our new owners' first 100 days or whatever.

Day of acquisition, interesting if haphazard interview with sky from Couhig.

https://www.skysports.com/football/video/16496/13367936/new-reading-chair-rob-couhig-defies-dog-and-illness-in-chaotic-interview

Day 1 - draining of the swamp + Couhig, Trosclair and Lundberg become Directors

Classy email to STHs reaffirming the aims of the new administration, "honesty, transparency and financial sustainability" while looking at what "adds value to the club, the experience and its supporters".

Interested to learn more about how the new ownership is structured in the coming weeks

Which legal entity now owns the stadium and training ground?

Will Dai’s charges over RFC Ltd via Rehne be cleared

Who other than RC and TT are shareholders in Dogwood LLC if anyone? What % do RC and TT own?

From LinkedIn:

Chief Financial Officer with strong and diverse experience and a proven track record of success working in healthcare; collaborating with a great network of industry leaders and professionals in creating exceptional care facilities as well as superb work environments.

Perhaps, given his experience, he can double up as physio. Or he'll be setting up a care home for all our injured players.

Also from New Orleans, and is CFO of a non-profit Health Company in Louisiana. Spent 3 years in his youth playing soccer with a US ISL League 2 team in New Orleans, although not the one Rob Couhig owned.

So - Financial knowhow, and presumably loves football. Sounds good to me.

Edit: His Linked In page has just been updated to show he is an "Owner and Director" of Reading FC. He's added a comment "Excited to be a part of the best football club in all the world. Up the Ding!"

We should get answers to your other questions but i suspect the US side will remain a mystery as they don't have as public a registry of companies as in the UK.

Don’t worry, our intrepid hack, Timmy D, has been deployed to find the answers.

Must say our main man Couhig has style based on the Hawaiian shirt he was wearing in his interview.

Bravo :D

Worth noting that Narin the Thai is out - he was only here for the car park!

There's some convoluted scheme whereby the car park is shared between four different companies and RFC, in Dai's time, had a share (c25%) of one of the companies. Reading Asia Holdings, Great Shine etc ...?

Redwood has said nothing about the car park or the Royal Elm Park development so I'm presuming they don't have a stake in it. Last I heard (1-2 yrs ago) the Thais had a project manager scoping out the possibilities. I believe the housing idea has been knocked on the head and who, post Covid, wants a new conference centre.

I think in 2023 the club divested it's interest in RFC prop co (which owns the land that was carved out) for £3.7m

So the Thai’s now own a white elephant whose only real value is.what the can extract from. RFC
And RFC are dependent on the Thai’s good will to ensure the club have somewhere for fans to park.
It’s a bad situation unless we have a very long lease signed (unlikely given the fact it was due to be built on). I hope the Thais don’t hold us to ransom over it.

The car park development is still a thing as far as I am aware. Were plans for a multi-storey, residential units and a conference/concert centre but god knows where things are now.

There's also the AWE enlarged Detailed emergency planning zone thingie (DEPZ) which supposedly puts a kibosh on significant developments...

"The revised Local Plan should not allocate land (nor carry over existing allocations) for housing or other uses which increases the population within the DEPZ (including significant employment development or the enlargement of the Madejski Stadium for example).”

Would make sense to get the car park back in the RFC Portfolio.
But Couhig would value it as a big bit of gravel on a rubbish tip (ie not very valuable) while the Thai’s would see it as a prime site with PP for significant development.
Hard to see where the compromise valuation would lie

Deleting the bit in the first brackets, making this slightly easier to read:

Does that mean that the plans to increase capacity will never go ahead?

Norhing is ever never. And it’s not really a concern for a good few years yet.
