What kind of role do you think he will play in the team this season ??

How much do you think he will get played being a 4th choice striker

I expect that he will have limited chances from the bench (which may depend on injuries to others) but will be a handfull when he is used.

When you look at Shane Long's background he has done extremely well so far. The experience that he gains in the Prem (however limited) will stand him in good stead, and should, in the long term, dempnstrate good foresight in bringing him to Reading.

what happened to the rumour of him going to QPR on loan ?? I think he and us would benefit from a loan for a year. He's not going to see much action in the Prem this season and he needs to be playing.

With him being only one of four strikers I doubt he's going anywhere on loan, Coppell has already stated he's not looking to bring in another striker befor the Jan window, so unless he changes his mind Long won't be going out on loan and will have to take his chances should we get any injurys.

A reckon a bacon roll... not the first to be pick to the party, maybe overlooked by the more traditional and trusted cheese/pickle and ham roll but once picked at.... would be tasty... v. tasty indeed...

I think him and Doyle up front would work pretty well, and bearing in mind Kitson and Lita's injury records, it might not be out of the question - I think Cox will go out on loan to the Chumpionship.

I think baring injuries we will see him in the Cup competitions mainly. Other than that maybe a few times as sub if one of the other strikers is injured.

I reckon he'll force his way into a starting place by the end of the season.

Like Doyle's role last season then.

I think he'll fade away and end up being sold on to a lower league club for a minimal price.

If we end up having to play Long in our first team next season, we'll be in a lot of trouble IMO

What do you think Doyle's role was at the start of last season?

How about cup competitions mainly? Other than that maybe a few times as sub if one of the other strikers is injured. You can't imagine he was supposed to play such an important role when we signed him can you?

Why would that be? He's a decent player and he's learning all the time. We'd have been in a lot of trouble if Sonko was in our first team a couple of seasons ago.

If he can be as clinical with some of his chances as he was last season he will be better than our other strikers.

Only because he is likely to be 4th choice striker. So if starts it means that two of Lita, Doyle and Kitson are injured/suspended.

He will start as 4th choice. Who knows what the order will be at the end of the season.

And also because he'd barely get a touch of the ball.

I don't think Long has got the either the technique or awareness to play in the Premiership yet and I agree that if he's getting plenty of chances to play then we're probably going to be struggling.

His role will be as backup to our three 'senior' forwards and he'll be used to sit on the bench when one of them is injured, getting the odd 15 minutes run out here and there.

Personally I think we need to bring in a forward with a bit of proven Premiership quality to complement Kitson, Doyle and Lita. As it is we gambling that they find their feet quickly and can bag the goals we need to get off to a good start.
