Roll Call

by Wycombe Royal » 31 Aug 2006 09:08

Goalkeepers: Hahneman, Stack, Federici
Right Back: Murty, De La Cruz, Halls, Sodje, Osano
Left Back: Shorey, Hunt, Golbourne
Centre Back: Sonko, Ingimarsson, Bikey, Mate, Gunnarsson, Sodje
Right Midfield: Little, Seol, Oster, Halls, De La Cruz
Left Midfield: Convey, Hunt, Seol, Hayes
Centre Midfield: Sidwell, Harper, Bikey, Gunnarsson, Ingimarsson
Centre Forward: Kitson, Lita, Doyle, Long, Seol, Cox

I have obviously only gone for first team players and excluded the younger players with little or no first team experience.

We seem to have good cover in most positions although left back and Central midfield look very weak to me. We are in need of another creative central midfielder.

Central defence now looks like our strongest position.

Sounds like a "transfer deadline day" thread, WR? - squad at beginning of day vs squad at end of day.

A centre mid and centre forward would be an added bonus today... but not holding out hope!

A bit unfair to exclude Golbourne on the basis that he has played one fewer Prem game than Sodje!

I thought that Sodje was also considered to be a potential right back.

Sodje was included because he is an experienced player who was brought in to be part of the first team squad. Golbourne is a youngster whom we have sent out on loan to get experience. It has nothing to do with the amount of games played for RFC.

I have edited my post to include Sodje as a right back.

It's the left back position I'm worried about. After watching Hunt there during the reserves as much as I think he's a great player, left back is not for him.

Can't Useless play left back as well as right back?

Sodje hasn't got that much experience of league football - he played his first League game barely 2 years ago. Golbourne has more Championship experience than him!

Sodje was bought as a first team squad member, Golbourne wasn't. He was bought as one for the future hence why he has gone out on loan. I put him in the same category as Cox and Osano. You may disagree but I don't see Golbourne getting near our first team in the near future.

You can also add De La Cruz to Right Midfield

I thought he looked very good and not that far off the first team (IMHO). I'm sure he would be called back early if Shorey was injured.

Good to see we now have some more utility players in there - we will need that once all the injuries and suspensions kick in

With the extra Central defence cover Sir Steve also has the option of pushing Ingi into a midfield role.I can see Ingi prooving to be a great utilty player as he is very versitile albeit he has has a sensational partnership with Sonks in the reargaurd.
Bottom line is we have a bunch more options and theres few better strategists than Coppell to maximize the possibilities.C`mon u rzzzz

Convey can be deployed at left back in an emergency. Remember he used to play as a wing back for the US a fair bit.

I'd personally like to see you add players like Osano, Cox and Hayes to the list as they are all on the edge of being first team squad players. I understand your hesitance though. Maybe put them in in italics?

Oh and I agree Ivar can play centre mid as well. should Bikey and or Mate prove to be quality centre backs that could prove useful.

PS regardless of the general feeling on here, and despite knowing less about him. I have the same sort of feeling about Mate as I did about Sonko when he joined us. That once he got his chance it would be near impossible to get him out of the team.

I'm pretty sure Halls has been tried in centre mid as well. and I doubt he looked much worse than he did at right back from the small amount I've heard.

Oh and Bikey played at right back in one of his games for us as well.

I too have a sense of unfounted confidence in Mate.

Halls looked better at centre mid against Millwall's reserves than he did against Feyenoord at right back.
