Drop Sidwell Now

by The 17 Bus » 03 Mar 2007 20:34

He has been offered a great deal and refused to sign it, it is time that we planned for the future, withdraw the offer and lets play someone that will be here next season for certain, Halford would have been useful today, his long throw being as good as a corner, and we can score from set pieces.

Has he definitely still failed to sign.

ESPN think differently, but he said on the radio (from a 3-day old) interview that he was hoping to make the right decision in the summer.

I don't think we should drop him. Maybe edge Halford in, but Sid is still a top player for us and it would be counter-productive to drop him.

If we keep playing him and get into Europe he is more likely to stay than if we drop him and miss out to Everton and Portsmouth.

Like I've asked several times before....

did we suffer without Sidders last season??

No.

Knowing Coppell's miracle ability we can get pretty much anyone playing in the centre and they'll do well.

I bet if we get Oster or Gunnarsson in the centre instead of Sidwell we won't notice it too much.

I don't think it's that funny a thread therefore - not that bad an idea infact.

Sidwell hasn't let us down yet, no matter what length of contract remains!
Like most, I'm disappointed that he seems to be heading for the exit door, but you can't fault his performances.

About time we offered Leroy a new deal as well. He's a free at the end of next season and we'll have all of this again!

He hasnt been 'great' in the last couple of games. I thought he had a poor game today again - gave the ball away too much and got caught in possession - and only improved when Gunnarsson came on to do some tackling in midfield.

You're right, of course. I mean, it was only Manchester United and Arsenal in the last two games!

I just wonder if Halford hasn't been on the bench not to a antagonise the faint hope that Sidwell might sign a new contract.

Fair play to Sidwell, the shop windows he has put himself in has left loads of out of work Mannequins.

No, Halford hasn't been on the bench because he's not ready to play first team football yet.

I think Steve Coppell knows what he's doing. He believes we're better off playing Sidwell than we are not.

In the Premier League at least, the manager seems to want to always play our strongest side and that's the way it should be.

Have to agree, ok so he has had a couple of quiet games, but I was actually very happy with his contribution today, he was very unlucky not to score. Some people seem to forget that he scored 2 goals against villa and set up leroy's first goal v man city and couple of weeks ago. Make no mistake, Sidwell is a key member of the team and will play. The contract issue will sort itself out one way or another. For now he is a Reading player and in the team so support him.

I think a change of manager is required.

Perhaps a better idea may be to drop the ineffectual Harper who, although liked as a player by myself, has been far too weak this season throughout. This is opposed to dropping someone on the basis of one game - we'd have struggled in a lot of games this season without Sidwell.

Yes but my point is Sidwell would be upset if the newbie (on the bench) threaten his place at any point in the match ie subbed.
