MOTM v LIVERPOOL

by higher » 07 Apr 2007 17:02

Very open entertaining game of footy and some excellent showings by many of our lads.Shame about that late goal and the damn crossbar grrr
Marcus..some better distribution and good to see some roll outs rather than the mega hoofs.
Gunnar...Ace utility man extraordinaire...nicely taken goal from acute angle.
Doobs..looked a bit shaky and off pace.
Shorey..Exuded quality and composure as ever.
Ingi..Mr Reliable.Soaked up most of the loose ends and neat distribution.
Oster...Impressive particularly the first half.Deserves a good run.
Sid..Seen better from him but some fairly neat stuff linking play.
Harps...Workmanlike and again linked up play well enough.
Hunty..Covered every blade as usual.Best game for a while from him.
Doyle..Still seems to be struggling to get back to all cylinders.
Kits...Looking sharp at times but to be fair Liverpool defence mainly dealt with both strikers without serious difficulties.
Bk..So so.
Lita...Not enough time to make any major impact.

Contrary to some of the gloomy predictions of a sound thrashing by the scousers the lads were unlucky not to gain at least a point from this one and Liverpool certaily didnt look streets ahead. All bodes well.
For me MOTM is between Ingi ,Gunnar and Shorey but after some major head racking Gunnar gets the nod here. Urzz and proud. Bring on the Charlton.

Ingi - outstanding performance. Especially so not having his regular partner Sonks alongside.

Some good performances today. Shorey, Ingi and Oster inparticular. A little flat up front though, but I did enjoy the attcking nature of our full backs. Nice finish from Iceman II. As for my MOTM vote, Mr. Consistency got it - Iceman I.

Good job all round. I went for Shorey myself as he got the most praise from the scouse commentators, grudging though it was. Ivar a close second.

Ivar was very sensible today. I always feel that he steps it up when he's the skipper. Doobs was okay in the first half and Bikey was great in the second, though I didn't see who was supposed to be marking Kuyt for their winner.

Sidders & Harps were a lot better than against Spurs last week and Boris was as brilliant as ever. I love the way that he's so amazingly average, with little pace, but he always comes away with the ball, gives 100% in the tackle and his slow skills are a joy to behold. Oster and Hunt both huffed and puffed though couldn't quite pull off the final ball.

Up front we saw a show of skill and intelligence from Kits and Doyle's effort was clear for all to see. Hasn't quite got back into the swing for us yet so I think Leroy should get the nod on Monday.

My MOTM is, as always, Nicky Shorey. Composed and alert throughout.

SHOREY FOR ENGLAND.

Very harsh. i thought we were much more secure with him at the back. He timed his headers well and was composed with his feet. Duberry left the heart a-flutter on more than one occasion, and thankfully Ingimarsson was always there to cover for him.

I thought Boris got beaten fairly regularly but luckily Gonzalez didn't have much to offer when given the chance.

The two icelanders were awesome today. Head and sholders above the others.

Both defenses were fantastic today

Plain and simple.
The whole team bar 1 = 100% gave all they had and i give them 8 out of 10 each

As the other one... Ivar = 11 out of 10 absolutely immence yet again. It can't be easy having to have different centre back to work with after playing with Sonko for a long period of time but Ivar has played really well all season and today he was absolutely brilliant and that is why he is the only player to play every second of every game this season

Shame we could not keep it going after a fantastic start to the second half.

The icemen were superb today along with Shorey. We must find a place for Gunnarsson in the side once Murty is back. Has to be at expense of Harper who has faded badly and is no longer worth his place in the side.

Can't pick Gunnarsson because of his first half and their first goal, so it's got to be Ivar.

Agree about Harps, time for Gunnarsson to step in.

I would have said Shorey without a doubt but their 2nd was down to him loosing the ball so i'm not sure. I felt Harps had a very good game moving the ball around but wasnt getting enough options from Oster on the right, if Little was there instead we'd have won the game imho. Gunna' go with Harps today.

Gunnar by a country mile

even when outpaced...used his experience and know-how to retrieve the situation.

As good a goal as you will ever see from a Right Back

Bikey good

Iceman #1 excellent captaincy

Shorey 4/10 for me ...sorry, responsible on two counts for the winning goal, a real pi55 poor back to Marcus mid-way through the second half, lack of decent link-up play with Hunty too.....maybe I am being harsh...it was Liverpool after all

Doyle should've been taken off instead of Oyster................well off the pace and the ref (and his linesman) must've had a grudge from some dark and distant time :?: He was never going to win anything today.

So our lack of wing play wasn't to do with Hunt not making any decent runs all game?

Bryn in my eyes. Thought he would struggle against Gonzales but he stood up and did very well. Topped it off with a stunning goal as well.

I went for Oster (although it appears I am the only one). I find it hard to justify giving it to a defender in a game where we lost and conceded twice.

For me Oster was impressive today. Doesn't start many games but was always available to receive the ball and played many intelligent passes, some of which were too intelligent for his team mates to read.

You say that however.
1st goal - dodgey offside (in my eyes)
2nd goal - always going to make mistakes when going forward.

Thats how I justified it anyway.

never mentioned Hunty

Hunty looked ok-ish

Shorey had a bad game?

Marcus 5/10 redundant
Shorey 4/10 for England?
Doobs 6/10 did a job
Gunnar 8/10 How does he get dropped?
Ingi 7/10 Excellent captaincy
Hunty 6/10 As it says on the tin
Sids 5/10 stray passes, good break-up play....not his best tho'
Oyster 7/10 good corners...not scared to shoot....needs the run to become the completed article
Harps 6/10 Worked hard and not worthy of the critism that he is getting from some
Doyler 4/10 Off the pace...out of favour unfortunately.....the ref and his lino had it in for him....should've made way for Leroy
Kits 5/10 the jury is out.....too many "flick-ons" going nowhere....but never stood off....always involved

Lita...5/10 made no impact no influence on the game
Bikey 7/10 great fun to watch

Completely flummoxed by that one.I thought he was fantastic today and certainly justified an England call up.Class act .
