ESPN Classic from 1983

by Jerry St Clair » 07 Apr 2007 21:45

Just been watching West Ham v Arsenal from 1983. And afterwards Bob Wilson, on an MOTD re-run, mentioned a Reading v Oxford FA Cup replay with the winners going to Chesterfield or Burnley.

Anyone recall the outcome?

We lost our 2nd rnd replay 0-3 at the Manor. We lost at home to Bishops Stortford the previous year. Great. :?

Bishops Stortford went on to draw with Middlesbrough, with goal scorer and Marvin Hagler lookalike Lyndon Lynch gaining a day on national fame.

the very first Reading game I saw in any form was the FA Cup match v Bognor Regis, the following year. The 6-2 win was picked for grainy tv coverage on Southern TV's local version of "The Big Match".
