Saw this on bbc......a bid of 700,000 doesn't sound much so maybe he isn't that good of a player, but who knows...

Marek Matějovský (born 20 December 1981) is a Czech footballer who currently plays for FK Mladá Boleslav and the Czech Republic national football team. It's in the same rag that says 'Hunt open to a move to Sunderland'. ie The Daily Mirror.

sky:

Reading are being strongly linked with a move for Czech Republic international Marek Matejovsky.
The Royals are looking to bolster their options and 26-year-old Matejovsky has emerged as a target.
The 26-year-old midfielder is currently with Mlada Boleslav - but is expected to leave in the January transfer window.
Mlada would not comment on the reported bid from Reading, saying an announcement would be forthcoming this week.
"On the possible move of Matejovsky the club will not be giving any information until Monday at the least," said Mlada spokesman Petr Sveceny.

Matejovsky scored in the Czech Republic's stunning 3-0 recent Euro 2008 qualifier success in Germany last October.

The same rag that correctly said that Lita had asked to be left out of the FA Cup team.

He played like a player that had asked to be left out.

Matejovsky has looked like a quality player whenever he's played international football. I'd be really happy with his signing especially at £700k.

However, I don't think that he'd slot straight into our midfield. Next season is when I'd expect him to come good, if he did sign.

An improvement on our current midfield on both counts then.

Sounds like another potential coppell bargain signing, get him in...
If we get enough rough diamonds one will eventually shine.

If not we can flog him to Sunderland for twice the price.

Not a lot in Prem terms but probably a decent whack for a side in the Czech league.

It's only recently that £700k has become small change ... for the Czech league it's still quite a bit although they are generally wisening up to the fact that PL clubs are happy to pay silly money.

If this does happen, and if it a big 'if' I doubt that supporters will be too happy with us signing aplayer who is 26 yrs old for £700K, although I will reserve judgment until I have seen him play.

Even though it is in the Czech league, you would still expect a quality player to go for a lot more although paying a huge proce for a player is no guarantee.

A midfielder in his prime who is playing for one of the better European national sides for less then a million.

Just what is the problem here!?
