Coppell in Melbourne Victory rumours today

by Cripple Creek » 01 Apr 2008 05:12

This was an in brief from today's Melbourne Age sports section.

Melbourne Victory are refusing to deny rumours that they are in "advanced discussions" with English premiership club manager Steve Coppell about taking over the reins at the A League Club.
Coppell, who as a player acheived legendary status as a wing half with Manchester United before forced out by injury, is one of the most highly regarded managers in England's super league.
As manager of Reading, a team that plays near to the Queen's home Windsor Castle, Coppell has achieved super league status working on a tight budget. At one point he was tipped to take over the Pom national side.
Melbourne Victory star Grant Brebner who once played for Reading said: "I never played under Steve Coppell but my understanding is he is a bloody good bloke."
Chairman of Reading John Madjeski, known as Mr Mad among fans and the local press, was unavailable for contact as The Age went to press.
Coppell's appointment would be popular among Victory fans who have become increasingly disaffected with the team's performance this season.
So far Victory have only won one match since December last year against the Perth Possums.

Not good journalism - No such team as the Perth Possums - it is Perth Glory.
No wins this year for Melbourne - obviously not because we are in our off season at the moment!
How can you take such an article seariously?
There is not much money in the A league anyway - each club is only allowed one marquee player - Dwight York was the last one from England with Juninhio playing a few games last year for Sydney.

Can't imagine that SC would be happy with the standard of play - it is as good as Oxford's!

A sign of the impressive globalisation of the Reading brand that we are the subject of an April Fools joke on the other side of the world.

Or something.

The same team that's tracking the highly rated Brazillian striker 'Foolio' ?

Yeah and African sensation, Kenny Yabean is also back on trial at the Mastad, expecting to sign and play immediately because he is un-affilliated at present!
