My source at tonights forum informs me of the following revelations which came direct from SC himself:

- We were offered Kevin Phillips.
- We were interested in Ben Watson but Palace refused to do business with us.
- Coppell effectively offered his resignation in February.
- Expect a player to leave over the next day or two.

My source suspects that Lita might be the one to go because when asked about his front two for Saturday Coppell said that it would likely be Long and Doyle. Nick(y) Hammond was not at the forum because he was finalising the aforementioned departure.

1) Hmm. I think he'd improve the squad.

2) That reassures me

3) 7 or 8 games into the losing run?

4) PLEASE be Lita

interesting, this was from the star fans forum wasn't it? Why didn't Coppell mention this to the media before if this information is true. It would frustrate if we were offered kevin phillips why didnt we try our best to get him to sign for reading, look what he has done for birmingham already.

Been offered Phillips is one thing - accepting him on his £25k a week wages is another.

Dead duck.

Why would Palace refuse to do business with Reading?

For fear of strengthening a promotion rival? :|

Warnock's intense dislike of Wally Downes?

Possibility.

Not up to Warnock who he sells to, surely?

Almost certainly not up to Warnock, no, but given how sickeningly sycophantic Warnock and Jordan are towards each other it may well have held some sway.

Floyd your source is only giving you part of the story. I will have finished typing the minutes by tomorrow and hopefully they will hit the STAR site tomorrow evening....

SC stated that when we were offered Phillips we had Kitson and we didn't need both [fair comment]
The Watson bit is fair.
Coppell said to Hammond our best chance of staying up might be if he left as new managers often get a surge in results....
He said 3,4 or 5 might leave before Monday - or it might be none...

Tune in to the STAR page for the full riveting saga with great pix!!!

And if you are not a STAR member join, without STAR such scoops would be unattainable...

Why (necessarily) Prem? I'm sure quite a number of Championship teams would love him.

I really hope this is Coppell refusing to be drawn and that the answer does turn out to be none. We really can not afford to lose any more quality players, particularly as we are not prepared to reinvest significant sums of the proceeds on proven quality but instead opt for cheap 'prospects for the future'.

As for not taking Phillips, I would be interested in the timing of that offer, as ever since the Derby game, if not before, Coppell must have had a pretty good idea that at least one of his star strikers would be leaving.

If Long is selected ahead of N Hunt on Saturday, I will give up on Coppell.
