SJM's radio interview ..

by Mad Dog's Ghost » 13 Nov 2009 09:15

Heard a bit of Dellor's interview on BBC berks this morning.

Synopsis: There will be very little money, if any, to spend in January. We have an 'amazing squad' (said that three or four times) and a great manager and promotion is a possibility. The fans need to rally behind the club. It's a community club. And there are no buyers for RFC.

Anyone hear any more.

I admire SJM for what he's done to our club, but he must be deluded.

The club is a laughing stock run by the biggest deluded clown possible.
Promotion with this team?? What a c0ck.
To be fair it wouldn't be a bad thing if we got relegated, least that pr*ck would lose millions.

Healso moaned on 2 or 3 occasions that attendances are down. Well no shit. Have an awfully poor side, people aren't going to waste their money. I know that if I hadn't have wasted 500+ on a ST then I wouldn't be there. I know numerous others that feel the same and haven't turned up even with a purchased ticket. Says it all!!!

Didn't hear the bit about attendances. What are we averaging? 17,000ish? I'd say that's excellent given the dreadful home form of 2009.

17 K is more than excellent considering the ammount of talent weve lost, our position in the league
agreed on the squad- considering the total decimation of it By the money men, it is quite good
im coming round again on the manager- but if we lose Vs blackpool ill be very depressed again
gutted

and lol at west stand flash- reading FC s number one fan!

im actually enjoying this season- with all its twists and turns, highs and mostly lows, and endless signs of corner turnage which havent quite come to fruition, yet.

Enjoying a season where we have been constantly shite, lost all our best players and have a chairman who couldn't get away quicker after fobbing us all off with contant lies.

Oh yeah been a barrell of laughs!!!

Why does he do this to himself? He would have been better off saying, he and BR are as disappointed as the fans that we are in the position we are in at the moment, that fans need to give BR and the team some time and although we may not be up there pushing for promotion, we are building a team that he hopes will be able to do in another 2 years or so.

That way we're not disappointed if we struggle a bit for the rest of the season- on the other hand, if we were to finish top 6, BR would be hailed a hero and everyone would be happy.

My response to JM's comments, personally, as as follows: It's no surprise there's no money. We don't have an amazing squad, unless by amazing he meant to say pretty mediocre at the moment, I'm not sure what BR has done yet to make him a great manager and, in our current position, promotion seems like far from a possibility. The fans are "rallying" behind the club, in as much as most of us still turn up and when we do we cheer the team on and try to motivate them, except when we go behind and play like a bunch of under 9 schoolboys. It's not the community club it was. I'm not surprised there are no buyers for RFC if the price bandied about is to be believed, and considering our current league position.

A laughing stock with who?

Presumably the management and supporters of the numerous clubs with spiraling wage bills, record loss announcements and those either in or on the verge of administration.

Our recent success has spoilt a lot of you fans over there. We spent most of our history in the division below the one we are now in.

Jeez I miss going to the footy.

As I've said time and again, I've watched us in the depths of old Div 4 - but we were never given any comments by Waller or Smee (to my knowledge) that we were pushing for promotion and how well we'd do. JM has always "bigged" the club and it's ambitions up - which isn't always a bad thing, obviously, but when you're in the bottom 3, and have been struggling all season so far, talk of promotion from the chairman does rather stick in the craw sometimes.

But how often was Smee required to do an interview or even Branfoot?

Did SJM say which season the squad would get us promoted? Everyone seems to assume this one or relegation...

I agree he's not really helping himself with these comments (although I've not heard them yet so can't really comment on how they were delivered) but we live in a totally different time now than back then.

The media attention and demands on the club, and the 'market' they now operate in are a million miles away from Smee and Waller's time and to an extent he's now expected to big the squad up. I don't think he should, but it's just an expectation of a changing society (but probably not RFC fans on a whole who probably just want a bit more of a realistic bit of PR).

Oh come on - if he didn't mean this season, he could have said what I suggested! You could argue just as well that he didn't say it WOULDN'T be this season. As for being "required" to give an interview - I don't know what you're getting at really. Waller and Smee, nor any management team have ever come out previously and gone on about promotion.

How often do you hear the chairman of any other club prattling on about promotion - particularly when they're not in a very good position in their particular league at the time.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue - I said that was just how I felt personally. We all have differing opinions.
