Royals sign Jordan Obita

by Royal_Delight » 16 Feb 2010 15:11

Jordan Obita has committed himself to the club till 2013. Anyone saw this kid play before. Is he any good?

Nope. But it's quite a big statement from the club saying he's one of the best in the country and it looks like there was a fair amount of interest in him.

Found this on getreading

...

Obita the target

Manchester City representative Barry Hunter is the latest scout to take a look at Reading’s under-18 side. Former Royals defender Hunter was at Hogwood Park last Saturday to see the young Royals defeat Milton Keynes Dons 4-1.

The player who appears to be attracting the most attention is winger Jordan Obita, who has already been checked out by Arsenal.

James Henry has never been touted as one of the best young players in England. Reading have said he's a special player and one of the best at the academy, at the time. But never England.

Lot of potential by the sounds of it. But will he live up to it?

Clearly we've tied him down so that one of the big boys will have to cough up money to take him away, which is what will happen within the next year or so.

We'd be entitled to a fee until he was 24 anyway.

Left winger, unbelieveable on the ball. Looks like Giggs when running.

Everyone tried to sign him, Levy and Redknapp turned up at his house. If he wanted to go to a bigger club, he would have.

Dolan deserves a lot of credit for this.

If he's that good he should be able to make our 1st team sooner rather than later and let's face there isn't a lot to challenge him for an out and out left wing role.

Good to see some loyalty from the lad. Hopefully he'll come on more than Henry has done.

Well done to NH and ED.

Afraid not. He would have been free to leave as he is still at school, which is why we singed him up. The new rule for youngsters means clubs can now sign up young players professionally from the academy at 16 rather than 17. So now if the big boys want him he would require a price of our choosing. But if you mean that we would be entitled to compensation at the end of his new contract then yes you're right.

We would have to change our formation a little though, seeing as BM prefers sig on the left cutting inside or Kebe.

Prefers? Or doesn't really have a viable, consistent alternative?

Only if he had been contracted to us. Hence the need to get his signature now, as he turns 16. I thought that was pretty clear in the article. You can't get a fee for a player who wasn't yours (and he isn't until he reaches 16). Simples.

Of course Henry's man of the match appearances for the England U19 side have given him a failry high profile in the past as has the attempts by Chelsea and Spurs to entice him away....
