Is BM a PR genius?

by Archie's penalty » 17 Mar 2010 13:08

In my opinion he is. He almost always says the right thing at the right time. More than Copps and definitely more than Rodgers. What do you think folks?

Not at all. He's just honest an calls it the way he sees it - and doesn't say things he thinks unhelpful or irrelevant.

It's people like BR who try to use PR to project a certain image who are most likely to file on those lines.

Ok so it was a slightly silly question from me. I just mean that he always seems to say the right thing at the right time. Very likeable chap.

I think he's straight out of the Steve Coppell school, honest, down to earth, dry sense of humour and doesn't overreact whatever the result. I much prefer that to the 'world class Chelsea model' bullshit we got from BR.

He most certainly is. I've just read the Matt Mills apology and it seems very heartfelt. Big Mac's comments at the end of it though are pure quality, every right thing said and with integrity and both of them come out of the situation smelling of roses (but particularly Big Mac) and we continue to move forward together as a club. Immense. I would say it's the sort of momentum that get's you in the play off's, however after last nights appalling display I don't think this will be the case.

I do take exception though to Warnock's comments of "It's not often you come to Reading and outplay them" :) Both sides were shi*e in my opinion.

Totally agree Crowthorne.

As for the Warnock comment, do you really expect anything less from the master of self-publicity? He is hardly likely to say the teams cancelled each other out and his team didn't do enough to win it. He comes out with very predictable comments about the 10 men and the penalty instead.

It is an interesting game they have at home at the weekend against an off colour Swansea though.

It is excellent PR and excellent management. McDermott's appeased the fans (those few who were offended) and, more importantly, sorted out Mills's head so that he'll be mentally ready for the next game instead of all twisted and bitter with the fans.

It's already clear that McDermott's a motivator. I think working so long with the stiffs has taught him how handle moody players. I did wonder if he'd be so tiptoey round the players that he'd brush the Mills thing away, but he's sorted the matter out like a leader. Much though I loved Coppell, I think he was too loyal to have dealt with this so firmly and openly. If it's true that Mills rebelled against Rodgers, it's clear he won't be doing that against McDermott.

At this rate, Brian will end up secretary general of the UN. :(

People were sucked in by all the BR props like his tactics book and his dossier on players.
I remember good old STAR being blinded by the lights before a ball was kicked.
People were sucked in by all the rhetoric.
Hoped it wasn't too good to be true, but it all fur coat and no knickers - and I just wished that he cut his early managerial teeth somewhere else.
McDermott is a different character, more down-to-earth.

I believe Brian McDermott used his time working with Steve Coppell to learn a lot... He seems to be approaching things in the same way that Steve Coppell did.. He also has the advantage of knowing why the players at the club were signed for the club being that he Scouted most of them.. Hats off to him and here's hoping the improvement continues..

He stumbled ever so slightly last night over the Mills incident but still go his point across well. Infact stumbling slightly means he's not rehearsed, more honest and just tells it as he sees it.
He's eloquent without coming out with the BS.
