National Anthem

by agentrwrf » 27 May 2011 07:13

No national anthem because of the Welsh FA. National stadium with british teams but no national anthem in case of upsetting the welsh. This confirms the national anthem is seen as english. Case answered. Inbreds.

Should be Land of My Fathers for Swansea (Wales) followed by Land of Hope & Glory for Reading (England)

Would be a cracking way to start proceedings but as The FA have no balls it will just go ahead without an anthem. A sad indictment on today's world.

annot wait for the working week to be over so I can look forward to Monday!!!!!!!!!!!

Of all the continuant nations, I'd have thought the Welsh were the least enthusiastic about independence from the UK. Shame they couldn't just play the National Anthem of our country (GSTQ being UK anthem too) and be done with it. If a couple of morons boo it then so be it.

Whether there should be anthems at football at all is a separate issue.

I'm happy to give both anthems an airing. Gets you up for a game.

Frankly if the Football League don't bother then eveyrone spontaneously singing it at 2-55pm would be incredible. Surely as the Royals we should do that?

FTR, this "tradition" that people love so much actually ended in 2003!

Well found article there Svlad. Shame the anthem issue has to be so controversial.

Apparently, Reading have chosen "Don't Stop Believing" as their music for Monday - isn't that from GLEE? :o

Is has long been the case that whoever is in charge of music at Reading is a complete numpty.

It's actually one of my biggest gripes about the club.

Players chose it - it's not the GLEE version - it's the original version by Journey - I'll be singing and dancing along like a loon.

This had BETTER be your idea of a joke.

Edit: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDet ... 45,00.html. Fu-kcing hell. Worst song ever. Yeah, cheers for picking this absolute dirge to 'represent us' players and staff. Could have let the fans choose? Actually, scrub that - they'd only end up voting for I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

I am taking my iPod on Monday, that has been decided for me.

Footballers with no taste in music? Who could have predicted that?

Isn't this just what they'll play before they walk out of the dressing room?

To be fair, a lot of my Welsh friends have been irritated by the cost of translating things into Welsh. That said, I have north Welsh friends who didn't learn English until they go to school.

When you say ended what you really mean is it was paused for a year due to another poor excuse.

Was it sung last year? The year before? Will it be sung tomorrow and Sunday at the other playoffs?

I think the answer to the above will all be yes' won't they?

Personally I think it's wrong that they stop it just for the sake of upsetting the Welsh who are happy to part of the competition within England.

Weak decision each and every time they've made it.

I'm confused, GSTQ is the Welsh national anthem, why would they be upset?

Probably only a very small vocal minority to be fair.

Well, I doubt many of them could even read Welsh before they went to school - so it's still a bloody waste.
